Dinan Stage 2 550i vs. 2012 M5
Okay, this may have been answered before, but my simple Google search gave me nothing.
Obviously, the M5 is a completely different monster. I realize this. However, I would like to know which car is faster in straight-line performance. The M5 has more 40+ horsepower. However, a Dinan Stage 2 550i has nearly 80 more torque. On a track, it's a no-brainer. The M5 is a much better overall car. I'm only concerned with straight-line acceleration. This is America, right? We don't care about turns |

I hope to test this soon, after my Hartge ECU upgrade.
I feel confident given my 8spd sport ZF transmission I will pull away at some point between 0-150mph, we will see ... Where is Dinans torque at, Hartge is 531 ft-lbs @ 2000 RPM! Thats a sneeze away from idle!!! Hartges also brings in 490hp at 5500rpm.

Okay. Taking DCT and launch control out of it, which is faster between 30mph and 40mph?

DCT is the transmission. It will shift faster than the ZF 8 speed. A narrow band such as 30-40 won't see much speed differential though.

I realize what DCT is. I was just grasping for straws to see if there was any scenario where the 550i would be faster. I was just being dumb......it's early in the morning.

If you search you will find those with Dinan Stg2 that have taken their F10 to the track (including me) are generally trapping between 112-113. There is an article in the M5 section that C&D trapped 122 with the new M5. If those numbers are accurate, it will be no contest. I'd like to see those numbers repeated by drivers here in the States when the M5 is out next year though.
Launch control/DCT will make the car quicker, not necessarily faster... |

I´m hoping to smoke the M5 from a standstill -> 50 mph.
And on wet or slippery roads ....... xDrive

I think the 550i Dinan will give the M5 some serious go from a rolling start. Question is how long.

Well, I just called to schedule my Dinan Stage 2 Programming at Classic BMW in Plano. Provided that I don't run into any M5s in the near future, hopefully I'll be owning the road in my small town in Texas (or at the very least, most high school kids with Hondas). Just kidding......or am I? (sarcasm)

I hope you are not showboating your 550 M-sport against teens in Hondas, ugh the thought. Next your going to tell me you have reserved parking in your trailer park.

Yes, I do have a reserved spot in my trailer park.......right next to the ridiculously oversized 1980's satellite dish. No, I don't showboat. I was conceding defeat to the M5 by stating that I'll only be faster than the stupid ricer cars flying around my city. Thus, the reason for the (sarcasm) at the end of my last post.

Okay, so comparing the 550i Dinan Stage 2 acceleration to.......
1) C63 2) 2010 M5 3) Other cars not mentioned Thoughts? Where does the Dinan-tuned 550i stack up? |

I used to own a C63 and I think it was faster than my 550iX Dinan stage 2. However, it's difficult to tell because I am judging by seat of the pants feel and not timed runs. The sound of the C63 makes it feel faster, whereas the 550i is so quite and smooth. I think the 550 with the Dinan tune is deceptively fast.
I also had a GT-R prior to my 550 and it was, without any doubt, much quicker in every aspect. Last edited by gray550; 12-25-2011 at 05:30 PM.. |

GT-R, well, being mentioned in the same sentence as that rabid rice burner is an honor in itself!

For those that might possibly know......(forgive my ignorance) Does the tuning effect the tone of the car at all?
