Michelin PSS A/S fuel efficiency
My F10 535i has 18" wheels with run-flat tires. I'm thinking about replacing the run-flats with Michelin PSS A/S for a more comfortable ride. Every time I pick up my daughter from school, I need to run over about 10 speed humps. Those run flats really ruin my joy. Before I buy, I want to know if the Michelin tires will do better or worse on fuel efficiency. Please share your experience. Thanks.

I wouldn't think fuel efficiency would be much different.
The "low rolling resistance" tires that are designed specifically to get better mileage increase by something like 10%. And that's for a product specifically designed for that. |

I was talking to my local tyre fitter about low rolling resistance - he said that's a load of bollocks, just a nice technical advertising term No idea if he's right, but to my mind low rolling resistance would imply low grip too!!
For what it's worth, on the E91 318d I used to have whenever I swapped the summer runflats for winter non runflats my mpg would increase from 48 to 53. Probably more about the big difference in weight than any 'special' design. |

You may see a slight increase in fuel mileage, but your driving style and behavior will affect the mileage more so than the tire swap. The tires you mention are 20% lighter than the stock rft's. Steering inputs may become more precise and impact harshness may be more muted, but I think the fuel gains will be hard to notice.

Thanks for your inputs. How will you deal with the run flat tires that will be swapped out? Sell them on eBay? Any reason I should Keep them? They have only 4200 miles on them.

you can try to sell them on craigslist or ebay, but may find little interest unless you really sell them on the cheap. If you have room in the garage, just keep them for a rainy day.

Post on the classified area of this site. I did that with my 19" goodyear run flats and sold them. I swapped out my tires within a hundred miles so they were virtually new and I got around $200 per tire, however they were in demand as lots of people were having issues and needed replacements........
