Intermittent Failures
I've had a number of warnings recently; "adaptive headlight failure", something along the lines of "vertical positioning headlight failure" and more worryingly after a rather jerky start "transmission failure."
In each case a reboot (or in automotive terms switching the ignition on and off) gets rid of the problem. Transmission and vertical positioning failures have not recurred, but the adaptive headlights seem to get confused on a weekly basis. I'll be in for a service next week, but in the meantime has anyone else experienced those problems, or have an opinion on what I need the dealer to do to resolve the issue once and for all? |

I had a similar problem with "transmission failure" and other warnings on one of my e60s. It turned out to be an alternator fault with battery not charging properly, low voltage was triggerring all sorts of alerts.
On my first service on the 5GT Sytners advised that the battery was low and they had charged it but I should keep an eye on it and charge it occaisonally as the F07 with all the electrically powered kit was known to put a heavy load on the battery and efficient dynamics meant that alternator was not always providing power. Hope it is nothing serious!

Be prepared for more failures. Word of advice: Document all messages. Take pics of message and odometer reading when it occurred.
These messages started popping up on my 2010 550i GT since new. At first they were intermittent and I also just applied the reboot method to make the errors go away. But, after a few months the car's performance began to become affected with each error message -- delayed throttle response, loss of power, attempting to stall, etc. BMW of North America and my dealer say there is no record of any of these errors or symptoms occurring. Convenient for them, no error message log exists since every time I reboot the car the message disappears. Needless to say, I am attempting to Lemon this car and get rid of it. |
