245/35/20 and 285/30/20 xDrive?
A lot of wheel places I've been to lately have recommended to go with 235/35/20 - 275/39/20 for my new Vossen 20" rims.
I prefer going with 245/285. From some of the reading I've done here it seems a lot of the 20" setups here are running wider tires. Is there any reason I'm being suggested to go with the 235/275? Any differences or potential issues with going wider...I have an xDrive. |

These dimensions keep the rotation speed within spec to not damage your differential or other components of the xDrive system. It's what BMW prescribes on their accessory wheels. Anything wider/larger might have a negative effect and could void your warranty.
I'm using these same dimensions on my incoming HRE wheels.

I've spent a lot of time checking out as many wheel posts as I could find and it seems like a majority of 20" setups go with 245/30/20 - 285/35/20. Others go with 295 on the rear and some go with 40 and 45 all around for pothole protection! I guess there is no one way to do this! The problem with 235/275 is that without spacers the wheels will not sit flush with the car. I would think the extra width would help a little with that? |

Changing the profile like that will make the speedo read wrong as you are changing the tire diameter.
The BMW approved sizes are 245/35/20 and 275/30/20

Yes, but 245/35/20 & 285/30/20 or 235/35/20 & 275/30/20 have nearly identical tire diameters which would be best for an xDrvie. Since xDrives are more likely to understeer, a staggered setup won't help performance-wise, but it does look nicer.
