F10 Reliability? Next F10 Body Style Update?
As many of you know, I am about to purchase a 2013 528i. I have two quick questions before I buy it:
Thanks! |

BMW typically changes the model after 7 years and the mid-cycle refresh comes at the start of the 4th year, so 2014 model year will be refreshed. Its your call on how you will feel when it arrives. I bought my e46 via order and it arrived in Sept when the 2002s (refresh model) came out and I went for it anyway and never regretted it. The refreshes are not very substantial, and there will always be new features. Its your call but you are a year away from a refresh now.
As far as reliability goes, its a crapshoot. My e46 was the most reliable car I ever owned and thats all that matters to me, and I bought another BMW to replace it with. Only time will tell. My MB on the other hand... |

A Toyota will be more reliable, if you can live with its numb drive. A BMW provides a different driving experience but will cost more to buy and maintain. It all depends on what is most important to you. So far I do not know of anyone offering the best of both worlds, which is unfortunate.

I've never had any issues with my BMWs, Mercedes, etc... Although, I've never kept any longer than 1 year except for my current 2011 550i... and its been problem-free.
Not much can go wrong on a 528i... the engine is N/A, and everything else will be under warranty or covered by lemon law anyways... not sure what you need to worry about, especially since it will be purchased new.

Don't think that Audi, Benz, and Jags are any more reliable. You're buying BMW for the way it drives and engineered. If you want a reliable and boring luxury car, get a Lexus or Acura. I have to warn you, once you buy a BMW it will be very hard to drive another brand. I switched to BMW after driving Hondas, Acuras, Infinitis, Benz, and EVO IX. Put it this way, there will always be at least 1 BMW in my garage as long as I live. |

BMW refreshes can range from a slight tweak of the lights to a major overhaul like the E46 and E90 had.So its your call on whether its worth it. I would say that the LCI is fairly close, but not close enough to postpone a purchase.

BMW will not be as relaible as a Toyota, just like a Toyota will not be as sporty as a BMW. The auto industry as a whole is gaining ground on relaibility. The relaibility gap between Toyota and BMW is not nearly as wide as it use to be.

I think that you'll find that the refresh comes at the beginning of the 5th model year. So the F10 should see a refresh for MY2015 and be available in the spring or fall of 2014.
