2012 550i
hello all, im not new to Bimmerpost, but i am new to this forum, just a month ago i traded in my 2011 E92 M3 for the 2012 550i, i am very happy with my choice, as it was an impulse buy. I had taken my M in for service and was given a 535i for a loaner, i was really impressed with the tech and was amazed at how fast that v6 was. Long story short when i went to pick my car up, i inquired with my sales rep i always deal with about the 5 series and was thrown the keys to a beautiful fully loaded carbon black 550i with the M sport package on it. Well i gave it some gas as i turned out from the dealership property and my head was thrust into the headrest, and the car accelerated with effortless force somthing that i never felt in my M, so i immediately made a u turn at the light and went in and negotiated the deal on her and the rest is history. Power is defintiely there, i feel like i have the best of both worlds, with once exception. It does NOT handle anywhere near that of the M3 (not that i expected it to) two complete different vehicles, but i absouloutely adore the 550 and love the luxury and all of the bells and whistles with plenty power on tap. I Look forward to chatting with everyone here, cheers!

Congrats!
I'm with you on how the handling just doesn't compare to my past M3, but I still really love the F10

Yeah had to accept that not too much under 100k is going to give what the M3 gives (gave) best all around car I ever had, and I have had quite a few as most in this forum have. But yes I love the 550 it gives a lot of the luxury that the M3 lacked for basically the same price, and the straight line performance is amazing! I've heard swapping out springs makes it more responsive and tolerable, strongly considering this, but all in all I'm a happy man. Thanks guys.

I do love my M3...but I was/am finding it difficult to extract its power on public roads without getting arrested, and just wanted something with more grunt and comfort (came from Dinan Stage 2 335i). I will miss her...but am really looking forward to a Dinan Stage 3 550i M Sport! |

Oh ok! Thanks for the heads up! Yours looks awesome btw. What should I expect to pay to lower it? Also any problems with EDC once lowered?

A set of springs should be about $3XX depending on the brand. Labor-wise, that's going to vary by shop...but it shouldn't be too much or much different from say an M3. No problems with the EDC with the springs, works just as it did with the stock springs. Each setting is a little stiffer than stock, which is a plus, but I still default to switching to Sport mode 95% of the time
