^^ you do not need to purchase stage 1 if you want to go straight to stage 2.
I ordered just the Stage 2 kit along with the USB wire which works perfectly in my car. Alan

What the heck! I just asked him: " I need to order Stage 2 for my 2011 F10 535i xdrive (09/10 build date) Do I need to order stage 1 as well?" His response: "Hello Chris, you would order stage 1 tune with your correct harness type then on our upgrades page there is a link for the stage 2 upgrade." The upgrades page is on this link: http://www.burgertuning.com/JB3_upgrades.html Apparently you guys have been ordering stage 2 without stage 1. I will direct him to this post. Perhaps I was not clear enough to tell him I just want stage 2. Thanks for the confirmation fellas. |

I would like for them to explain in detail the reason why both stages are needed.

I'm thinking Burger just adds in the stage 1 in addition to the stage 2 when someone order only the stage 2 tune for their F10 N55. I'm guessing it mislead previous buyers to think it's just a stage 2 tune/unit only.
Either way, when you order a tune for your F10, they adjust the order for the correct application. Jeff and the crew knows what they are doing. The only discrepancy is the pricing. N55 Stage 2 tuner and USB combo is $559. Now for the F10 535, N55 stage 2 upgrade with the required stage 1 and USB is $584 ($574 when you return the core) So for those who already have the Stage 2 for the F10 535, how much did you pay before discounts? I will just order what they said on the email. Quote from their site: "Stage2 support for the F10 is very limited and not available for all vehicles. Stage2 for the F10 is ONLY available by purchasing both a Stage1 system and a Stage2 add on upgrade kit from the upgrades order page. Stage2 is not currently available for 2012+ F30 335 models. Follow along on N54Tech for the most current updates." |

I ordered a JB4 stage 2, I received a JB4 stage 2 and I installed that same JB4 stage 2. I never had to order a stage 1. My stage 2 has the CAN interface with the posi-taps installed.
As per this link. http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showth...t=16620&page=3 Cheers

^^ same here.
It's pointless to get both at the same time. The upgrade kit is only for those that had stage 1 previously and now want stage 2. I am 110% certain about this. You can even check out the e9x forums and they either get S1 or S2....not both. Alan

If you go to their website, they just changed the way you have to purchase to get to the Stage 2. I just bought mine as a full Stage 2, but after that they changed to having to buy Stage 1 and then upgrade that to Stage 2. No more Stage 2 purchse alone.
Cut and paste from Burgertuning.com: "Stage2 support for the F10 is very limited and not available for all vehicles. Stage2 for the F10 is ONLY available by purchasing both a Stage1 system and a Stage2 add on upgrade kit from the upgrades order page." |

Just went on their website and they did make that change.
As if it wasn't more confusing before now they made it even worse. The price doesn't change except they automatically throw in a $20 core charge which doesn't make ANY sense for a new JB user that never had S1 before and just want S2. Also there are 4 wires that S2 has that S1 doesn't. Their upgrade kit includes these wires for the user to modify the S1 harness accept. Now if i'm a first time S2 buyer will they send me the harness with the proper wires installed or will you have to install them yourself?? I see two reasons for this change 1) make an extra $20 off F10 owners with a core charge that doesn't make sense for new buyers (F10 guys gets less features as well) 2) Be able to only stock S1 hardware for the F10 platform and if you want S2 its on the owner to modify the harness themselves At this point you guys should just order the JB4 S2 through a vendor of his and specify its for a F10. Terry's page always did suck and they made it even worse for the F10 guys. I'm still not convinced that S1 and S2 is any different power wise because all you are adding is two wires into the CAN system and from one of the dynos i see floating around here the hp numbers looks the same as another member with S1. Terry is smart because everytime i ask what the actual difference is between how S1 and S2 functions he just says "better boost control" and thats about it. Never goes into detail and never mentions any hp/tq gains. Even their website shows a S1 dyno but then shows a S2 dyno but with downpipes and meth. Well no shit i would expect gains with dp and meth alone but what about solely between S1 and S2? I can only wish someone who has S1 now and has S2 coming do a before and after dyno so we know for sure. Even better yet open up both the S1 and S2 control box and take a pic between the two. Alan

^^^ Good points Alan l. It's possible they are just offering pre-made harnesses just for stage 1 at this point to keep inventory costs down. The cost of four extra wires and a control box for Stage 2 and diy install to the consumer is much more cost effective on their end. It makes sense as a company to make that move if the product is not on high demand. Stage 2 is simple to install anyway so I'm not sweating it. My original post was to clear up the air for future buyers.
So to conclude, if you order direct from Burger, you need the stage 1 harness, upgrade to the stage 2 control box and USB cable. Return the stage 1 control box (core) if you want $20 back. I'm sure when **********s or other vendors depletes their inventory of pre-made Stage 2 harnesses, they will have to resort to the same package mentioned above. |

Didn't work on my car.... Getting drivetrain malfunction and engine light on. Couldn't hook up the four CANBUS wires since I don't have the interface that is shown in the picture. Now waiting to hear back from Terry? Will double check my install, but I'm sure I hooked it up correctly.

For the minimal price difference you might as well go stage 2 right away since it supposedly feels better than Stage 1
Put close to 900miles on my S2 and zero issues and no check engine lights so far. Alan
