REPLACING FRONT WINDSHIELD 2013 F10 with HUD...
Anyone have to replace their front windshield yet? I ask this because they (the dealership and the autobody shop) are having difficulty figuring out what glass is supposed to be on my car.
2013 with HUD... i can't imagine it'd be this difficult but ... it's been a nightmare to say the least, i don't even want to get started... |

Its not hard. The dealer should be able to figure it out pretty easily. We do them all the time @ my dealer. It should come up correctly if they are using your VIN to look up the part. There is a specific windshield for HUD.

they have put a windshield on that distorts my HUD and my HUD is literally invisible during daylight or bright lights... the dealership claims that this is indeed the correct windshield, even though another dealership has verified that it is NOT... i've been getting the run around for over 2 weeks now, ranging from "it's the shops fault not the dealerships problem" to "we made a mistake we will get you the right glass" to now again, "according to BMWNA it is the correct glass and all this could have been avoided if you had the work done at the dealership... there is most likely an issue with the rain sensor install which is causing the HUD to not function properly..."
i've literally spent countless days trying to sort through this with just about the most hideous customer service i have ever received for anything in my entire life... the kicker to all this is, i drove my new car to visit family for the holidays and so i'm not even back home, and don't want to take my car back, especially with the dealership flip flopping back and forth between accepting responsibility to not accepting responsibility... i'm so glad i did not take their offer to drive back home and they would reimburse me to have the work done elsewhere, i think they just wanted me to leave so they can wash their hands of the problem... |

The HUD reflects on both the inner and outer layer of the windshield to give a sharp composite view. Two possible problems in your case:
If the windshield is the wrong one it won't have the correct reflective surfaces, and all you will see is a poor (low intensity) reflection of the display on the HUD emitter in the dash. If the windshield isn't exactly the same distance from the emitter (this could be because the shape of the glass isn't the same, or even just a thicker layer of adhesive) the display will be out of focus. If this is the case, they can re-focus the emitter to get a sharper display. |

1 - i can only see it at night 2 - at another dealership, they brought out an almost identical brand new 535 to demonstrate the sound difference between the two windshields... they had me knock on both of them and their F10 sounded much "thicker"... |

I had my windshield replaced on my 2011 F10 with HUD. It was no big deal. Zero effort on my part. It worked just like new. Your autobody shop ordered and installed the wrong glass. Tell your dealer to work with them so that they replace it with the correct windshield.

the problem is they ordered the glass from the dealership by providing them my vin number...
allegedly, there is a difference between the 11 and 12 F10 vs the 13... the other problem is, dealership is not wanting to take care of it and are stalling for some reason... and that's exactly how it should be... zero effort on anyones part minus the initial call to insurance and paying the deductible... i have now made 4 trips to the dealership and i can't even begin to tell you how many phone calls i've had to make... |

Just had mine replaced a couple months ago by Speedy - my 550 also has HUD - good as new.

THey might have not removed the entire seal completely from the old glass and its possible that the new glass doesn't sit as flush as it did from the factory... just a guess.

Polarized glasses are not ideal for use with the hud. The hud relies on reflections which is exactly what those glasses are designed to remove. You'll need to buy some non polarized. ( I can vouch that that combinations ok even in bright conditions

Almost forgot about this. Needed a new harness, when they installed it someone bent one of the pins. Car was doing all sorts of weird things, auto lights wouldn't even turn on etc. Shop refunded all my money, which was nice of them.
Thanks guys... |
