besides the GT is not selling well at all. If you have one, beware of the huge depreciation hit when you try to get rid of it (compared to a F10 sedan).

about the GT you bought
Went to check out a couple of cars I'm interested in. Wanted to trade in the GT. First went to a Jeep Dealer who absolutely refused to accept the car in trade. He was only willing to have a jobber come in and he'd give me whatever the jobber gave him.
So I went over to the Mercedez dealer to see about the GLK350. He said much the same thing. So, my curiousness aroused, I went to a high volume high end wholesaler. He said the same thing - also that he could sell 10 Jeep Wranglers before he'd even have one interested in the GT. How much did the jobber offer for a 2010 535i with 6000 miles on her you ask? $ 27,000 US dollars -- "maybe that much" he said. |

much the same in the Uk. I traded mine for a RS6 last month, some BM dealers would not even bid on the car. I got an ok price in the end but not easy.

Reality Check
Residuals on most large BMWs have always been poor. The beautiful 6 series coupe and convertible that retail around £75,000 new well-specced are now under £45,000 after 12-18 months. The 5-Series GT is a niche model and does not perform in same bracket as the 520d saloon or wagon, so expect poorer residuals. I bought new and am absolutely delighted with the car and intend to keep it longer than 3 years. I think the GT is an excellent deal approved used especially if you buy in Yr 3 and keep for 3-5 years.
If we all bought cars with good residual values, we would be buying gray or silver 320d / 520d repmobiles in Eco trim and fat tyres and no spec. Fortunately, some of us are able to get beyond that |

I am not too concerned about the current 'apparent' low residuals.
The finance agreement I have is very acceptable. As has been said - there aren't that many 5 series GT's out there, and they do attract attention, once more are out there I think that the luxury and versatility of the GT will catch people's interest and it will become more popular. I do think the original release with the 530d and had too high a price for buyers to choose against the F10/11 or the 7 series. Now with the 520d at an attractive price compared to them.....it is a much more attractive proposition. The E60 took a lot of initial criticism years ago with what critics described as a clunky rear end ....sound familiar?? Only time will tell I guess.
