US Spec in Europe (Germany) What works?
Hello all:
Greetings from Kaiserslautern Germany. I just got my 2012 F10 528i US Specs. LOVE IT!!! It has all the bells and whistle, but many seem not to work here in Germany. What is suppose to work & what will never work here? Which smartphone is the best to integrate? Thank you all in advance, Jay |

Why did you choose to get US specs BMW in Germany?
as for which smartphone is best to integrate, you can check BMW site from this link http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...eck_intro.html I believe iphone and BB are the most compatible

Let's start with the North American NAV maps and Sirius radio...

Correct satellite radio will not work.
You also will not be able to use any online functions via smartphone. I use an iphone 4s and BMW connected app connects to my car but that is it. You should NOT have NA maps, they should put them in a sub folder and activate the full EU maps. Anything else not working?

NA maps are hidden. EU maps are there....but older version. HUD - autobahn exit info is a white square. Any work around? Thanks in advance, Jay |

SMS and Mails on the iPhone is supposed to work with the future Apple iOS 6 release, this is neither BMW's nor the US version's fault.
The HUD white square is a bug with US versions driving in Europe, it has been reported by many other US customers who did European Delivery. The problem goes away when the car is in the US. Not sure if there's any workaround or fix while the car is in Europe.

Above thread is my experience and fix for the HUD box of death for ramps, etc. Not worth it for an ED but if you live here in Europe, definitely worth the fix.

What are the cost? DIY or dealer? Do you lose the NA maps? Does the EU maps add speed limit signs to the HUD? -Jay |

I spent much time and energy into trying to get the dealer and/or service department to somehow get the speed limit signs to show up to no avail, really disappointed.
My dealer paid half the cost of the full EU maps and I paid the other half. I will have to check when I get home I am down on the Amalfi coast currently.

Also have a US spec here in Germany. Have the old European maps, but want to upgrade. Dealer will do it for 200+, but want to see if there's a workaround.
