Are you asking about this one?
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...spot.html#more Useful to carry your iPhone and take your Wi-Fi only iPad with you so you only pay one internet access service and have the luxury of the iPad's larger screen? To me that sounds like a good use for it, does anyone know if this would work? |

Just got the BMW Car Hotspot for my 550iX. It's a bloody expensive piece, cost me almost €500! My dealer did not know about it but had a look for it and found they were in stock at BMW France.
Works pretty well, put in a data sim card and then you set it all up via your iPhone/PC/ipad in the car while connected to its wifi. My setup is the car hotspot with my iPod touch connected to the USB port and connected via wifi to the car hotspot. That way I can use BMW Apps on the iPod touch for web radio / Facebook / twitter. Only problem I've noticed is that after a few uses, my nav system becomes almost unresponsive with BMW Apps running on the iPod touch. Once I quit it, everything is back to normal. Hope this can be fixed with a software update! |

This makes no sense to pay for a stand alone hotspot unless it is 4g.
I suspect the BMW hotspot is 3G. I use my iPhone and when it is in the cradle you get flawless Internet whilst the car is moving. Also, you can pick up a 4g mifi hotspot at Verizon for far less than $500 with BMW. |
