These Cars Are Awesome!
My daily driver is a 2011 Silverado 2500 HD with the Duramax diesel engine. It has been in the shop for the last week and half for a blown radiator hose that they can't seem to procure. In the meantime I've been driving a Ford Escape rental. It's pretty zippy, but that's about it, it's uncomfortable and terrible to see out of, but let me get to the point of this post:
That car has a 2.0 liter turbo engine and driving back and forth to work about 55 miles each way at speeds from 65 mph to 80 mph. My average mpg is usually between 22 and 25. My 550i has a 4.0 liter (twice as big), a twin turbocharged engine that at those speeds get me anywhere 23-27 mpg. A big family sedan that is comfortable, fast, gets the same or better gas mileage as a compact CUV, handles well, and really looks (as my kids say) sick. How awesome is that?

Well, that's during a rest period between the fun jaunts.

My F30 328i averages as much as your 550i about 15-18 MPG on a good day. Maybe an upgrade is in order.

The 550 is one hell of a car. My enjoyment level while in this car is a 10. While I've enjoyed my past BMWs, the 550 is just the best of so many worlds in one car. It gives me the rush of speed I got from the 335 (and then some - as the 550 is quicker) while giving me the comfort and luxury I've yearned for from the larger BMWs... while providing an interior design that, for me, brings back the love I had of the e46's driver-oriented styling.
The bells and whistles are just really fun, too. I never thought I'd use that darn active seat function as much as I do. Anytime I'm driving for more than 45 minutes or so, I turn that puppy on and my butt just never felt so comfy on a longer trip. Active Cruise with stop and go... same thing. Never thought I'd use it so much as I NEVER (and I mean NEVER) used cruise prior. I think in all of the year I've owned my other BMWs, I never ONCE turned this function on in either car. I use this at least once a week now in the 550. Just a really beautiful and well-engineered car. It needs a bath though... its nice jet black is looking a bit grey!

One of the main reasons I decided on a 5, is I see it as the only sports sedan that I buy and not have to mod it at all to be completely satisfied. However, after looking at this 550, I'm thinking I'm going to be tempted to at least add wheels and lowering springs...that or turn my head each time I see one with similar mods.
