more importantly you dont get new car discounts/rebates. the dealer will show you the window sticker with an MSRP of $75K and tell you your getting a hell of a deal on this car thats only one year old and with 6K miles on it for $65K. a savings of $10K for only a few thousand miles! actually its not. that $75K new car could have been purchased/leased for ~$67K if you know what your doing. with all incentives, rebates, BMWCCA, etc you can easily knock 7-9% off the price of a new car. now add in the fact that you have less warranty/free maintenance on the used car and worse finance rates (if you finance) and you really havent saved any money. in my limited experience the sweet spot is 2-3 years old with 20-30 k miles on them. that is where you get the best value. however many people want the experience of being the first in the car

I agree with some of what you say, though I don't lease or finance.
But at 3 years/30,000 miles, you aren't picking up much of the original warranty. CPO is fine, but having as much warranty left as possible is pretty critical with a used vehicle purchase. ESPECIALLY a used 5 series BMW. This I know from experience.
