General Tire Pressure Question
I've just swapped out the horrible Goodyear RFT's that came on my 2014 550i X-Drive with non run-flat Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's in the same size (245/40-19). The door decal specifies 38 PSI in front; 39 PSI in rear. My question is: Should I use the same air pressure in these non-flats? I had the dealer install the tires and they put 35 PSI all-around.

my 2014 550i xdrive came with 35psi on the stock Eagle's. I inflated to 38/39 and it feels much better...mine came with dynamic handling package and at 35, i was feeling the bumps a bit too much. now i'm gelling at comfort +
How do you like the Michelins? Are they more gripy? Why did you change? What do you plan to use for winter? |

35-40 psi is in the perfect range for your car. Just depends on the how you want it to ride.

The Michelins are light years better than the cursed Goodyear RFT's. MUCH smoother ride, quitter, better traction and handling. I have the DHP also, and combined with the new tires, the car is now a lot more fun to drive. Since I live in Virginia where we don't get a lot of snow, these will stay on the car year-round. As for flat tires, I now keep a Conti Mobility kit in the trunk, along with a tire repair kit. For long trips, I have a compact spare and small hydraulic jack.

I wonder if 245/45/19r's would rub if I was to replace the 245/40/19r's... I like the stock 19inch M double-5 spoke wheels and they don't come in 18's...but would def appreciate a little more meat on the 19's. Winters are rough in NYC and I won't survive January with 40's...
What's the lowest that anyone has gone on the rim size to gain more on the aspect ratio? |
