2FB for me too, hate that first wood I am afraid, second much better.
In answer to your question, 19's with adaptive and yes to run flats. Also live in the south of england and zero ride quality issues. Function over fashion is irrelevant Pete, the 18's are too small for the F10 and 19's have no ride downside, so function and form in one hit - happy days

I have had 2 F10 cars, one in Sophisto Grey and the other in Callisto Grey - both wonderful, but decided to switch to a lighter shade this time.

Agree as well, 2FB look the best
On a side note, why don't BMW let you have 20" alloys like Audi do on the black edition? Love the Audi anthracite 20" alloys on the A6 .. spoke to my dealer who said they could order the 20" alloys but the cost was about £3,000 or something ridiculous like that!! |

I think the Style 303 20" wheels from the 7 series msport look the part, not sure if they fit a 5 series though. If I'd known about these when I bought mine, I'd have asked. Too expensive to justify now as a one off.

I have 20'' m sport wheels on mine with m sport suspension, ride isn't too bad either. Better than any previous m sport that I've owned. Cost £4k though...

Space Grey as a lovely mix between Sophistico and light silver. I happened on it by chance, as was looking for a black E60, and have bought two now with the F10!!

I can feel the difference, between an 18" and 19" shod 5-series. 19" crash more easily over bad surfaces. I prefer the ride of the 18" in my circumstances, less jittery intrusions to the cabin, even on average road surfaces. I have to say it, but 17" winter wheels are even more comfortable, than the 18". What we'd really expect. I know if I was running 19" wheels for the looks, I'd be changing tyres to non run-flats (probably Michelin PSS), to keep the finer side of ride quality, (plus consideration for tyre damage). I just don't personally want the hassle of trying to run without run-flats, had enough of that with my E91, trying to get a better ride quality. Enjoy your 19" wheels, I'll stick with stock OEM rim sizing, which give "me" the 'sweet spot' for ride quality down my local roads. HighlandPete |

Hmmmm -19"s vs 18"s - its not as if the bigguns fill the wheel arches further (same overall diameter wheel/tyre after all) - so what exactly is the attraction of another 0.5 inches of alloy showing all round?
Not to mention the hit on yer RFL! I'd agree that the 19s on a 530 literally smash over bad surfaces - with M-Sport suspenders at least .... also fiddled with non-RFTs on my E91 and altho a big improvement on 18" wheels, the hassle of puncture impact was a pain ..... not to mention the Dealer adjusting his quote on trade-in as the car thus didnt qualify under the BMW Used Car guarantee checklist - FFS!

Pete, all good
My E60 19's had non run flats and my F10 19's have run flats, honestly they feel the same. My problem may be that I have an Elise as my fun car, which makes the 5 a limo in comparison. I love them both in different ways

Just picked my car 2 days back. Have not had much chance to drive it yet. 535D with Adaptive Drive. I had VDC in my previous 535. Quick question: Are there any user settings for Adaptive Drive. The only setting I found is the one under Sport Settings to choose either Transmission, Suspension or Both. Are there any user settings that can be modified for Adaptive Drive. (There was nothing for VDC, so I thought maybe there is more configuration for AD)...

The two ARS modes I mentioned in the quote are not user selectable. Tell us what you think of AD, once you have a bit of seat time. I still rate AD in the 535i as one of the best options. HighlandPete |

I haver had the new F10 without VDC, with VDC and with AD... and the AD is something different - no doubt about the body control and agility it gives over the standard suspension. Recommend it any day... and wouldn't buy a car without it.

I am still amazed how the F11 works through the 'twisties'. Often forget how big it really is, as with AD it drives more like a 3-series for size, but with much more refinement. HighlandPete |

What was surprising is that my better half (sitting as a passenger) also commented to me that the new car (with AD) is a lot more 'settled' than the previous one (with VDC) - and she is not a car person at all ! I have to say, AD is quite a revelation. I think I rate AD as a feature higher up than Heads Up Display.

Certainly settled on straight roads due to the ARBs virtually disconnecting. But it is when AD is cornering that it really excels. Almost denies physics in the way such a large car is so flat in the bends, even on the softer settings.

Settled = As in flat in almost all situations including cornering. Highland Pete has explained it well in the above post.

So with AD, are you aware of every imperfection in the road? or does it smooth that out and provide a softer ride but without the wallow?
On my msport suspension with 19 inch wheels, I am certainly aware of any imperfection in the roads surface and along with tramlining, even the paint on the road markings is obvious! These posts mean that when I consider my next car (which will be years off at his stage), I'd certainly have a look at AD. |
