Launch control and other cool features unlocked!!
I am now loving my new launch control setup! Had a guy in Socal code launch control, folding my side mirrors with key fob and comfort access (looks badass while walking away), and playing video files from USB. He drove to me which was even better, there were some other options as well, but just didn't have the time to get to all of them..
The car revs till about 2k RPM, says "launch control active" on the cluster and once i release the brake I get an amazing launch with very minimal to no traction loss. FINALLY, cant wait to use this against my buddy! |

Without the beefed up torque converter in the LCI's?
Also, you probably saw it in the manual but be sure to let the transmission cool down between launches. That process is hard on the drivetrain. I take it you don't have the SAT trans, because LC is standard with that option. |

To be honest, not quite sure. I met up with the decoder and had him give me a list of features that could be enabled. I tried using launch control before but it did not work (or i could have been doing it wrong), so i am going to assume i dont have SAT trans because he had to code it to work. |

If you don't have SAT, he can code/enable the SAT functionalities. In fact he has to enable the SAT in order to get you Launch Control. SAT is only electronics, it's the same transmission. |

In fact your car has SAT now, you just don't have the shifter and paddles for SAT... |

Wow! thanks for the info, but what im wondering is if my car does have SAT, why does BMW not enable it? Why do I have to decode it to get launch control?

The SAT is a costly option. One that comes with a different shifter design and the steering wheel with paddle shifters. One of the reasons why it's not coded, is that BMW (or any manufacturer) make more money by offering some of these things as add on options when you buy a new car. |

The majority of 5 series buyers could care less about the SAT functions and prefer the smoother shifting of the standard transmission programming.
SAT is only $500 - not that costly for paddles and a nicer shifter |

Yep, I have SAT and enjoy it, but I was just addressing question asked above about why it isn't standard - that most 5 series buyers don't care about or even want the SAT features.

So does it actually say launch control active in the display?
I have an M-performance car, which has an upgraded sports automatic. When following the LCI instructions I did not get any indications that launch control was active, but my car revved to about 2500rpm and took off like never before. |

The launch control instructions that came with the LCI models.
It was something like transmission is sport, traction control off press and hold brake, throttle to maximum. A small checkered flag and launch control active appears. Well, mine just sat at 2500rpm and when I released the brake the car took off. Edit. Like in this video. |
