19 Inch 351 Alloy Tyre Pressure sanity check ?
Just checking.... The sticker on the drivers doorway states 220 for the front and 270 for the rear. 270 for the rear tyres seems quite high to me? That said I just followed what it said and inflated to those pressures this morning - have not driven the car yet though. They were at 245.....
Thankyou.

Thats correct - I run mine a tad higher with a 10 stone Newf in the back !
Mine drops 10-15% after a month, so dont rely on the TPM warning !

kPa, AP. Not the most commonly found unit of pressure when dealing with tyres in the UK!
The sticker in my car is definitely not "quick reference", with the wheel sizes in small print and scattered all over (this is a 535d F10, so not for use on an F11!). |

Your not reading the diagram correctly. The bottom right hand box is for the 19" wheels, within that box the first (left box) reading is for the front tyres and the second (right box) is for the rear tyres. Therefore under normal loads tyre pressures should be 2.2 for both front and rear wheels. When you have 5 passengers and suitcases i.e. the car is fully loaded then it should be 2.6 front and 2.7 rear.

Actually looking at it again you may be right if referring to 18" wheels... Really confusing layout that I've not seen before on BMW's tthat I have owned. My last two cars have had 20" wheels and the readings for these are all contained within one section rather than having to refer to two as seems the case for 18" & 19". To make it even more confusing it appears you have to reverse the way you read the front rear pressures depending on whether you have 18" or 19" wheels.
Madness!

Sorry to bombard with replies but just noticed OP has 19" wheels therefore the box marked as rear is actually front tyre pressure and box marked as front is rear for his set up...

The marks on the diagram are for me! And I have 18" summers and 17" winters.
The OP has 19" wheels and an F11, so the diagram is not for him. Last edited by Pottsy; 03-16-2015 at 09:34 AM.. |

The 19" front is in the bottom right box (2.2 bar) and the 19" rear is in the bottom left hand box (2.3 bar). Scope for error is high. |

Any other format requires lists of pressures. (There is a bigger range of tyres than pressure settings). Maybe it's how my brain works as an engineer, but the BMW placards make perfect sense to me. HighlandPete |

the 275/35 R 19 is the rear tyre but on the diagram it is the front and 245/40 R 19 is the front tyre but on the diagram is the reverse so it a bit confusing |

Well I did 140 miles in the car today and it felt fine with the higher pressure in the rears. As I said they were down at 245 so I did what it said on the door sticker.

HP,
The BMW table would make perfect sense if you were to enter it with pressure data. "So I have 2.2 and 2.2, that means I have 19" wheels on the front and 18" wheels on the rear...." These tables need to be designed so that you go in with the wheel/tyre size (nicely grouped) on the left, and you read the answer on the right. To me the BMW table has been designed by someone clever, who has missed the point entirely! |

I've take a shot , excuse the poor quality from my 2012 model and there are slight differences. It seems I've been running my rear tyres at 2.2 instead of 2.3 bar since new for my 19 inch wheels. Glad I read this thread!
Very obvious when you read it carefully and seems quite logical. |

Yes, I follow the logic of the Jaguar placard and your own example for a specific BMW list. All fine if you don't have to change the listing, within the same label size parameters. What would Jaguar do if they added another 3 tyres for example? Bigger label, looking even more overloaded with figures? BMW use a format that can be easily modified with extra tyre specs as production moves forward, without needing a bigger label. Don't forget some placards have far more listings than your F10 example, I've an example with 14 different tyres, 7 in one of the pressure groupings. What would Jaguar do in that instance, make a much bigger and even more cluttered label? I guess some users would prefer that format, however big it had to be. But for me, the BMW format is just fine. HighlandPete |
