After having the H&R springs for a couple of weeks now, I must say they perform absolutely brilliantly!
The car has achieved its full drop by now (over 1" all around) and the suspension has settled. The ride is better than with the factory springs, as it has become **MUCH** less bouncy and wavey, keeps the amazing level of comfort of the stock ride, and at the same time adds a tremendous improvement in how the car feels and communicates through the steering. I am happy as one can be and do not regret a single penny spent on this upgrade. And, mind you, I run on 20" wheels... Nevertheless, I cannot help wondering, how it's possible, that the ride is so comfortable, stable, controlled, meaty, communicative, all at the same time. Plus the car looks SO MUCH better with the narrower gaps between the wheels and the fenders. |

Hate reading these cause I'm going with coilovers but debating if springs are what I need? I don't want to be slammed but I hear people still not happy with the gap using springs.

This... I am going with springs while being afraid it will be too low and ruin the classy look of the car. Some are afraid they will not be low enough.
So that really depends on what look you are looking for but in my case I do not want it to be obvious my car is lowered, I like people (non car enthusiasm people) thinking the car comes like this from factory. My springs should arrive in the coming weeks but will probably wait until I am in vacation to get those installed in the first week of August, I will report back how the I find the ride on non sport suspension. |

I've been running the H&R springs in my 535i xdrive for a little over a year. In case you are thinking of doing the same, I want to set down the results of my little experiment.
First, the look is outstanding, and didn't stop me in 4 inches of snow. Second, ride is wonderful over smooth pavement, particularly when cornering: floatiness banished. Potholes and pavement ridges are something entirely different. Ten minutes after I had the springs installed I hit a 1 1/2 inch high pavement ridge where the road was being resurfaced: the springs compressed right up to the stops with an incredible bang. I honestly thought the front end was going to be lying on the road. I had driven over the same ridge with the stock springs an hour and a half earlier, no issue. It turned out that this was no anomaly. I learned to devote 3/4's of my driving attention to spotting and avoiding potholes and ridges, and not always successfully. All these bump-stop banging events were very hard on the car and shocked the hell out of a couple of passengers who looked around like we'd been in a front end collision. When I replaced my summer tires, both my brand new Avant Garde bespoke series rims on the front -- put them on at the same time as the H&R springs -- were so out of round they couldn't be balanced, and had to be sent out for straightening. Two months later, I started hearing clicking noises in the left front axle shaft when turning -- replaced on warranty. Four months' later, right front axle shaft started clicking, also replaced on warranty (I have a very long-standing relationship with my BMW dealer). Conclusion: don't. |

probably but when you're wheels are getting bent out of round you're hitting some serious ridges! i kinda know what he's talking about but that's not do to the springs

Wouldn't hitting the bump-stops transfer the impact to the wheel? If the spring compressed more wouldn't that prevent the tire/wheel from taking the impact?

It should. The bump stops would help the struts from bottoming out and blowing out the seals which than would start leaking.

I have been running H&R springs on my xdrive for 2+ years without issues. Also Quebec / Canada road are terrible because of winter temperature my suspension never make sound / car shaking like I had an accident...
Still very happy with my setup since it is very smooth. The stock A5 of my friend with dynamic dampers is rougher even in comfort.

Go coilovers ! H&R is a mass production springs there's no benefits to the car other than lowering. If you live in any state that goes through winter season i don't recommend it.
I'm going to switch from H&R to AC Schitzner in the next few weeks if i don't buy KW v3. All my friends with F10 M5 had H&R and switched over to ACS too.

Of course...you'll have to actively avoid them big pot holes. But I do that anyways when I'm driving my wife's completely stock suspension car. I've always favored H&Rs over ACS; I figured...if you're going to do any type of lowering, the result should show some type of difference. And from my experience/research in the past...H&Rs give a noticeable difference, the other guy...not so much. Hope that helps. |

That looks awesome. I'm really debating getting h&r but I don't know if I should wait until after the winter.
Do you buy chance remember where you got them from? I also have a 535i xdrive. And were you able to install at home or via shop? |
