I put my 245/285 set up on today with the M5 wheels and life is back to normal. The previous setup was most defiantly throwing a few things off. Uneven roads you could feel some of the tires breaking loose or the traction control trying to take over excessively. I concluded if I ran this any longer my transfer case would be toast. I hope this little trial didn't set me up for any long term issues. maybe if someone could chim in on that. |

I'm getting ready to do the same thing with my X drive but 265/295 combination are NOT the same diameter tires so not good for an X drive but 255/295 are same diameter and 245/285 are as well but am still concerned with it looking right for one and two what about rubbing on the rear with 295"s vs 285's (which in PSS is on back order forever) anyone??

I have been running M5 wheels on my 2013 BMW 550i for the past 2 1/2 years. I got the wheels off the brand new M5 in 2013 right when I bought my car new. I have 255/35/20 on the front and 285/30/20 in the back. I had to use spacers in the front with longer lugs and rear didn't need them. My first set of tires were Michelin Pilot Super Sports and I got 13K miles of them. I am currently using Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires and they are great.

No, I did not have to use spacers. It is very close to the calipers. I have yet to experience any rubbing or any issues being so close. If you do end up with spacers in the front then you will need extended lugs as well.

Yea in 2013/14 they changed the caliper in that the long bar on the caliper (wish I had a pic but took my 12 to the dealership and compared) closest to the center of the wheel on mine is dished in and curved if you can visualize, where on a 14 I looked at is just curved and flat not dished in and I assume that's the interference problem on some.

Can someone who has mounted these 343 M rims on an LCI 550i with XDrive confirm first, whether they needed the 3 or 5mm spacers and then secondly if you did add either of the spacers, was there enough of the hub left to properly mount the tire?
I have a chance to pick up a set of these this week but don't want to waste my time if they can't be mounted correctly. Thanks a lot |

On my 2012 550ix the front calipers are like the first (top pic above) and the 343 M5 wheel will work with out a spacer but its really close, BUT it hasn't caused any problems. I would guess if your caliper its like the bottom pic you would need a spacer but I can only verify what I have. l'll post a pic of how close it. Hope this helps.

guys,
thank you all for the very useful pics! my car is lowered with Eibach Pro-Kit springs and I was wondering whether a 255/295 tire setup on the 343M wheels would work w/o rubbing ? the front is lowered 30mm (1.18") and rear 25mm (0.98"). in addition, I guess, I will need 3 or 5 mm spacers for the front because of the calipers being too close to the wheel. Can I use my stock bolts I am currently using on my 19" 351M wheels? Last edited by BimmerV8; 06-17-2016 at 04:51 AM.. |

If your car is a 2012 or older you can bolt the 343 wheels right up with no problems, as shown in an earlier post on the 2013 and later cars you will need to use spacers to clear the front brake calipers. You can run 255/35/20 tires in the front, but you'll rub if you run 295's on the rears. I guess the M5's rear axles are slightly shorter to allow 295's.
I'm lowered on ACS springs and am running 285/30/20's on the rears with no rubbing at all. Good luck.

Thanks, Chili. However I thought I read some posts mentioning that 295 on the rears went without rubbing. Ok, I certainly don't want to take any risk of buying wrong tire sizes. As it is a xDrive I would only be allowed to drive either 245/285 or 255/295 due to the almost identical circumference.
My car has a production date Sep 2014 and I made some pics of the calipers today as good as I could. Will post the pics tomorrow. |

I weighed the options and just went with the 285's. Just bolt them up and go.

I also considering placing a M5 OEM wheel on my 2014 F11 M550d xdrive.
Original tire sizes of M5 are 265/35/20 and 295/30/20 but considering xdrive and needed same wheel diameter the problem is easily solved by the changing the 265 front tire into 255. They are actually 2 solutions as fas as i see Front 245/35/20 Rear 285/30/20 Or Front 255/35/20 Rear 295/30/20 Question is which one is the best, having in mind also having ACS springs installed. I think the 245/285 option is the best because the car is lowered with ACS springs and i want zero rubbing. I drive 50000km/year. I wonder if i need the extra spacers to clear the brake caliper in the front with the M550d F11 A clear picture to compare these tire sizes would be ideal Last edited by Thieutje; 12-02-2016 at 05:42 AM.. |
