How to get to Crankcase-ventilation pipe
Hi all,
I am working on the N63 engine (replacing turbo coolant pipes) and while taking it apart I discovered that I need to replace Crankcase-ventilation for driver side. What I can not figure out is how to reach to the bottom of Crankcase-ventilation pipe (#2 in the image attached). It is on the side of the engine and even my daughter hand can not fit between engine and wheel well. I am sure there should be a semi-easy way to do it, any recommendations? Thanks, Vadim PS: Sorry to cross post from 7 series forum (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=936509) but I am really trying to find an answer and there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum . |

Please post back when you figure this out. I assumed they would have to be installed from underneath, but I ran out of time to test the theory. Installing them from above might be possible with hose pliers?

I was able to get a hold of someone from another forum about it and he sent me this.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8...VKbWE3dTgzNmNv You need a google account to see the link from my Gdrive. Enjoy, doesn't seem as easy as I thought, I still haven't tackled this ...

I got recommendation from bmwtechitian https://bmwtechnician.com/2015/11/14...-care-package/ (in the comments) so I went and got 20" screwdriver (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002RI8MI/) and after 10 min trying to figure-out how to get there, it worked as described. You can stuck work light and then you can actually see end for the pipe. You need to break off two peaces, outside one is easy, inside one is somewhat more tricky. After you break them off, to pull pipe out, I slipped a fishing line on the end and used it to pull. When you put pipe back, use the same screwdriver to push it in until you can hear a click. I had to loosen a track with spark plug wires (not sure of exact name) but not remove it, to insert new pipe in. Vadim. PS: if you have an issue with vent pipes only, dealer should change it for free, see https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh....php?p=9463502 |
