Spare tire?
I just ordered custom wheels and tires to replace 18" with run flats on my wife's 535i, but discovered the car does not come with a spare and the trunk deck doesn't even raise up to take a spare. Is there a work-around for this?

Yes, you can rely on the run flat, call a tow service, carry a full size spare and jack or a temp tire kit like this,

That exact spare from bimmerzone was what i did, its not a full size tire or a skinny donut but right in the middle, about 5 inches wide so it looks substantial enough for our cars to go a ways if needed- also bought the tire tote, makes removing it if you need more room for a shopping day or whatever really easy as its got a nice handle. Buy a cheap strap to keep it from sliding forward, because it will....theres still enough cargo area left for most days...
Then get a bmw jack and lug wrench from ebay for 35$ (yes, its a piece of crap)(but its for emergencies right) it fits right in the little cubby under the flap in the boot....Plus carry the AAA card Prepared!

The catch for me is that on any significant road trip, I also need all the luggage space, so that's exactly when the spare would have to come out Nevertheless, I'd like to consider some of the kit options out there like bimmerzone's. |
