I have the latest iDrive telephone software, as downloaded from www.bmw.com, and an iPhone 5 with iOS6. When I start my car and it syncs with my phone, I still do not receive text messages or e-mails via iDrive.
Are you guys saying each time I want the functionality to work I have to wait until my car and phone are fully sync'd, go to settings, notifications and change the amount of "show recent items" every time I turn on my car or are you saying I have to do this once and it will work thereafter (over multiple ignition cycles)? |

I've followed the instructions on this thread and changed up what's shown in pictures 4 and 5, but still get what's shown in pictures 2 and 3... Can't seem to get the functionality to work, even for one ignition cycle. Any thoughts?

I had a try with my Son's iPhone 5 (instead of 3GS see above) using the same BMW software you show, and did get it to receive text messages and it does display the email option in the filter although it didn't actually display any during my test. Don't forget to go into the bluetooth option and then the BMW connection and set the option for notifications to on. This option never appeared on my 3GS. Really needed to spend an hour or so trying different things to test it properly but my Son didn't seem very keen on leaving his iPhone with me for the week :-( Can't understand why!!. But he is very good he's lent me his 4s with iOS 6 to play with. Only problem at the moment is its locked to vodafone and I'm on Orange or O2 or 3 so will have to get a vodafone PAYG card and do some testing.

UPDATE:
I’ve been able to get text messaging working on iDrive, but no e-mail. Anyone having difficulty should be sure to have “Show Notifications” turned on and to have “Office” checked under “Configure Bluetooth”. QUESTIONS: 1. How does this affect battery life? Aside from using Bluetooth for telephone calls and “Transferring Contacts”, does this additional functionally wear the battery more so? 2. Is there a way to reply to incoming messages directly via iDrive instead of having to take your phone out of your pocket? 3. What does checking “Show Images” do? 4. Any advice on getting e-mail to work? Last edited by dbs600; 10-02-2012 at 03:17 PM.. |

Frankly, I'm amazed how much energy is being spent here trying to get this to work when it has been clearly stated that the GM build is flawed and buggy and not ready for prime time consumption. As mentioned previously it was rock solid up until Beta 3. Forget about GM until 6.X comes out.

Given that we are all BMW Owners, it goes without saying that we all want the latest and greatest functionality, and are obsessed to be the first in our respective circles to get it working. Hence all the energy and curiosity. I say it's a good thing...

So have we determined that this is a result of Apple not fully supporting Bluetooth MAP protocol? Or is it something that BMW can fix? I had heard that prior versions of the IOS6 betas worked but that the final version doesn't work right.

This is, in my opinion, very much an Apple issue. Bluetooth MAP works perfectly with Blackberry 9800 in my 2011 BMW F10. You must remember that Apple were not "trying" to get this working for BMW, they were trying to get it working for other bluetooth MAP devices (bluetooth watches and the like). In my opinion, they weren't trying very hard anyway. It seems that IOS 6 was rushed to allow Apple to launch the iPhone 5. Just look at the mess they're in over the maps!!!
I have tried all beta versions of IOS 6 and none of them worked properly. What we now have is as good as it gets until the next udpate to IOS 6 but I seriously wouldn't hold out too much hope that it will be fixed even then. Final point; this past weekend I updated the software on the BMW to TX 3.5.5 which made no difference whatsoever. According to BMW, this update is to provide better performance on IOS 5. It seems BMW are a bit behind the times when it comes to software! |

Worked for me today
Folks, i'm not sure what I did, or didn't do; I have been receiving SMS for quite some time now, but this morning on my way to work, a spam email showed up on my phone (iPhone5 by the way) and wouldn't you know it the envelope showed up on my screen, at first I thought it was another sms that came in at about the same time, but no... it was the email.
I'll have to do some testing to see if it's consistent. check out the pics the first is my phone screen shot an album cover was one I have my music playing via bluetooth, took the picture as soon as I saw that the message was an email. The second pic is the nav screen shot. |

Hi - Thanks for posting this thread +pics. Your Version Number is TX- 3.5.4 - 3.4 in the picture above. I am trying to get a F10 produced in 2010, model year 2011 to work with either an iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1.2) or Samsung S III (Android 4.1.2) to work nicely with the phones over Bluetooth. This page: http://www.bmw.com/bluetooth Says to check the "Version Number": In BMW vehicles with the new generation iDrive, please proceed as follows: press the "Tel" button on the iDrive Controller, then "Options" and afterwards select the submenu "Bluetooth info" and "Display system info". *** How can one upgrade the Version Number/ software to the latest avail. regardless of production year? Is that even possible? That appears to be different from this: This page: http://bmw.com/update Based on last-7 of the VIN, the latest update avail is UPD01006. The content of that update is applied based on the "Version Number" above it seems and it installs MX-3.5.4, TX-3.5.6 in my case. |

Resurrecting an old thread...
Any else have problems with iOS 11.1?? I no longer receive texts in iDrive. I have the appropriate boxes checked (show notifications on my iPhone 5s and Office checked in the bluetooth options in iDrive) and all I get is the audio text received "ding"; but when I go to Office and select messages I get nothing. I've un-paired and re-paired the phone numerous times. And for some reason I'm unable to update to the alleged newest software, UPD05074. I get a compatibility error when I try to download the update into the car. Any ideas??? This development is quite irritating! |

Just confirming that when you say the "show notifications" button is highlighted on your device, you got there via Settings / Bluetooth / My Devices ("BMW XXXXX") / Show Notifications = On, and not via Settings / Notifications / Messages / Allow Notifications route?

I just updated my iphone 6 to 11.0.3 and 11.1 recently. I have a 4/2011 production CIC iDrive. I didn't change anything and text notification just rolled in this morning while I was driving, and my contact list transfer seems to be happening properly.
