Anyone up 100k Miles on their F10?
Hey all,
Just wanted to find out if anyone has owned their F10 535i until 100k or more miles and if so what repairs have you made up to this point? Just wanted to find out what issues I might encounter and plan accordingly. If you have had a great experience with this car and no issues I'd like to hear that too for my own peace of mind.

If you're scared I would dump the car as soon as possible. Your sanity/peace of mind isn't worth a car; no matter now good. Personally, were I in the financial position I would never buy a super-car. I would be afraid to drive it and never get to enjoy its potential.

Hey TZ I read the threat but that was for a 528i, more curious about the 535i engine and suspension issues.

My independent said to run away from n63 told me valve stem seal job at his cost is $3,800 and that’s at 100 an hour. Said timing chain job is 1800$ . Told me most expensive job he’s seen on 535i was something to do with the oil leaking from cam or driveshaft bedding . Can’t remember honestly but was around 1200-1400$ job . I was in your same boat a few weeks back and went with 535i and I’m able to continue normally sleeping at night . The car is so comfortable I don’t even care too much about not having tune yet lol

If you do the search, I believe the 535i is the most reliable model of F10. Mine is clocking at 75k and no major service.

Thanks guys. With the slight shimmy issue and replacing my control arms I am trying to see if I need to expect more surprises. Japanese cars are different they just keep going, german cars need a lot of TLC from what I have witnessed.

I'm at 115k with my 2011 N63 550 Xi and I bought it with "high miles" last year and I must say it's been pretty....eventful to say the least. Not terribly unreliable but I kind of knew what I was getting into I guess.
I've put 16k on it myself and of course at 100k comes the time for things to break and be replaced and if you plan on taking it to the dealer for all repairs then you are just in a lose-lose situation. These cars aren't terribly hard to maintain but scary because BMW does most things that seasoned mechanics already know, like myself, QUITE differently. In my year of ownership: Alternator replacement at 100k ($1400 at an Indy.) Tried to do it myself but once I got everything apart there were special spline sockets that I didn't have smh. Btw the only alternator that the car read was the one from the BMW dealer. The Indy tried a rebuilt unit, then one from a local parts house and the car read neither...BMW ONLY. So there's that. 101k the blower motor and FSU unit went out on the coldest day of the year. Didn't want to pay thru the nose and did it myself. Took 2 days because there was so much to remove and so many nuances but it's doable. I was even considerate of subsequent owners and installed a mesh screen so no leaves or other debris would enter the housing anc cause this again. Cost $200 as opposed to $1k at BMW. Most recently I had CPS Sensor codes come up and knew that it was time for plug replacement. Bit the bullet and decided to do them myself after getting an astronomical quote from BMW and my Indy and it was fairly EASY and cheap. Cost $220 for all parts and about 4 hrs of my time. I'll echo the sentiment above in saying that this car is truly terrifying to own for fear that something catastrophic will break and being of supercar status, that's guaranteed to happen at some point. If you plan on keeping it, don't let it be a daily driver (my actual DD is a rock solid Volvo S80) but my anxiety has increased tenfold with this car which is why I plan to free myself soon because my sanity is more important than worrying if it'll break the next time I crank it. But...it's such a joy to drive and ooze down the road, or unleash its ferocious power when needed. I'm wordy but in all honesty I say leave it behind after 100k unless you plan to go to a school of tech simply for the F10 vehicles.

Oh yeah, regular maintenance like brake linings and rotors are fairly easy but there is a learning curve because it's a Bmw and I can't really comment on cost of suspension component replacement because I had a small run in with a sidewalk a little while ago and every component underneath my car was replaced upto and including the CHF fluid for the ARS system. It cost my insurance company $15k and over 6+ months of being in the shop...yeah. These cars are not to be taken lightly...

My 2011 335d was near perfect at 100,000 miles on it. I sold it for comfort reasons and hope my 535d goes way further. BMW is best known for its inline-6 motors and diesels, so that is where I look. The 550i sounds nice but a 535d would have 9/10ths of the performance for easily 50% better reliability. No, its still not cheap to fix by any means, but I have a real diesel-loving Bavarian private mechanic with great service.

Thanks for all the input guys. Sounds like they can either be trouble free or be an expensive lesson learned.
I have 60k miles on mine and if I get a major issue might go back to the Japanese brand less headaches or just lease.

The 528i then switched to the N20 4 cylinder turbo engine for the 2012 model year onwards.

A post made by a mechanic at a dealer stated that warranty work is paid to dealers $.50 on the dollar. Like health care, prices might be inflated to weather contractual insurance discounts.
