535ix expansion tank exploded with the car idle
Hello everybody
This week i was staying in the car with the engine on and suddenly i heard a very loud pop and i saw steam coming out of the car. It didnt appear any error of heating or something before the incident, after the exploded it appeard the coolent level low and to stop the engine . I lifted the hood there was coolant everywhere and the expansion tank was in two pieces from half. Now my car is in service waiting the tank to be replaced but i want to know what can cause the pressure and if can this happen again with the new one . Thank you very much. |

The cap should be rated at 2bar to vent excess pressure.Sometimes the cap fails, they are wear / consumable items. Nothing under your hood looks to have had attention lately, and it looks that the tank split apart on the ultrasonic weldment of the two halves.
Replace the tank and move on. This is an everyday occurrence with glass filled plastic cooling system components. |
