TPM malfunction
Two hours and 45 minutes into a three hour drive, I suddenly get a TPM malfunction error. When I checked TPMS on the vehicle status page, it shows nothing (see pics), so I assume this is a system issue rather than all 4 sensors simultaneously crapping out. I was hoping that a stop/start cycle would clear the issue, and the car would sort itself out, but no such luck. Now every time I start I get an error message telling me to drive carefully (see pics). I ran a few searches here, but didn't find a thread on the issue. I also looked for any YouTube vids. Anyone have any similar experience?
On a related note, how sad is today's nanny state driving culture when the lack of TPMS requires error warnings, two dashboard lights, and a caution to drive carefully. However did we survive the driving experience for 100+ years before the mandate of TPMS??

If one sensor goes bad it takes down the whole system. Time to check your faults and see what’s there.

That seems like a really poor design philosophy.
I pulled the codes and got the code in the pic below. I cleared the code, and it has not yet recurred after several drives. Everything is back to normal on the vehicle info display.

I am wondering if your error ever returned? I found on-line that the problem could be the RDC antenna. I have the same problem and didn't want to go to the dealer at $145/hr plus parts.

Hi,
I have a 520dx 2016 European model, the car started to complain about TPMS failure, checked tires and sensors are ok. Replaced the areal located behind rear bumper, the part has this Nr 36106881474 used INPA to read errors, cleaned errors an great the TPMS started as normal. Here is the thing, after shutting down the car for a while the error comes back. Been trying to see if need to code something but I have not figured this out. Has someone had same issue how did you solve this? I see that I have and option in INPA to reset the ECU under the TPMS fault search and clear menu, did not dare to do that because I don’t know what will happen, can someone please advice? Many thanks Andy |
