Bozman52 Thanks for that info. I figured the rear E60 M5 parts would't fit, but from what I read in this thread, the fronts should work, unless I misunderstood something. Now for the rear brakes, a few people stated using the rear F10 550i calipers and rotors, but I'm still unsure whether its EU or U.S. specs.

Back to the front E60 M5 brakes for a second . . . I see that the E60 M5 has a hub diameter of 79mm, while our F10s have a 75mm hub diameter. I worry this is a deal breaker for using the E60 M5 setup. With the X5M setup that Darkknight did, that rotor is massive (at 395mm), but it still has the same hub diameter of 75mm. I'd love to hear if someone has used the E60 M5 rotors on the front of an F10.

Regarding the rear 550i setup, I thought the US and Europe specs were the same. I just pulled up both versions on RealOEM and confirmed this is the case; they both use the same part numbers for the rear. Here is what you need for the 550i rear brakes:

Rear Rotor (345x24)- 34216775289
Rear Caliper- 34216793047 and 34216793048
Rear Caliper Carrier- 34216793053 and 34216793054
Rear Pads- 34216775346

Ah ok, I see what you're saying. Thanks for that info. I may just end up keeping my setup, might just buy slotted rotors for the front and rear.

Sorry for the late response on this.. But no the F01 did NOT come with the blue paint. However, the B6s did come with the blue paint. That's where I got the idea.

I bought a set of used calipers from ebay just to get the carriers to add to my 550i calipers (was less than one carrier new), but now I am thinking of having the 760i calipers powder coated black and rebuilding them, then just swap out with my stock 817/818 calipers when I install the 374x36 rotors. The Calipers I bought are PN 34116786827 left side and PN 34116786828 right side. Can I still use the 550i pad wear sensor with the new bigger pads? Or do I also need the 760i wear sensors?

Brake lines should just bolt up? I am thinking maybe SS brake lines while I'm in there. I already bought the solid Bronze bushing/pin kit from ECS to install on the calipers too.
Yes, 760i F0/F02 brakes (Calipers/Rotors)are the same as Alpina B7/B6 and are a direct fit on the F10 (I have them if you look at my post earlier).

Thanks. Can you please confirm the rotor part numbers used with these 760 calipers? I saw different 374x36mm rotor numbers listed for the euro 550i high speed brake set up (using 550i calipers and taller caliper carriers) vs rotors listed for 760 and Alpina B6/B7 models (that are different calipers with the same tall caliper carriers).

I actually bought a stoptech BBK for my car after I got the 760 calipers and pads but I am looking to sell them to someone and want to make sure I communicate the correct rotors required to complete the upgrade.

I've been weighing various options on what upgrade I want to do, but from my Excel spreadsheet, these are what you would need to put F01 760i/B7 brakes on the front of an F10:

Front Rotors: 34116789543 and 34116789544
Front Calipers: 34116786827 and 34116786828
Front Caliper Carrier: 34116786829
Front Pads: 34116794464

The caliper carrier is the only part that is the same between the 550i/750i and 760i/Alpina B7 front brakes.

Here's a question...If I were to upgrade the fronts and rears on my US based 535d to the 760 fronts and 550/335i rears (both larger rotors and calipers), should I also upgrade the master cylinder to the 550 version at the same time? Would I need to consider any other factors?

Thanks for the input!

You will not need to upgrade your master cylinder with the 760/550 brake upgrade. DARKKNIGHT put 4-piston X5M calipers on his F10 and did not upgrade the master cylinder. My understanding is that if you go for the full M5 brake retrofit, which is not a simple bolt on mod, then you'll have to upgrade the master cylinder.

DARKKN1GHT, I'm wondering if you still have any of those spacers sitting around for the X5M front calipers that I could buy off you. I also sent a PM, but didn't hear back, so thought I'd try to ping you here as well.

What if i just wanted to have drill slotted rotors? would there be any issues with using aftermarket drill slotted rotors and oem calipers for 550i?

New project - retrofitting the F10 550i front rotors into a 535i .....

This interesting topic popped up previously in various forums around the world. And today we had the opportunity to implement this project here in Singapore.

Stopping efficiency is dependent on a couple of factors

- Friction coefficient of the brake pads
- Tyre traction
- Force of the caliper clamp
- Size of the rotors

This upgrade of rotor size using a larger rotor from the 535i's brethren would provide increased stopping power.
The general rule of thumb is that the larger the rotor diameter, the more torque is available to slow down a rim. It's like lengthening a lever from its pivot point ....

The stock F10 535i rotor measures 348 x 36.

The F10 550i on the other hand measures 374 x 36.

The upgrade would also include the larger brake dust shields and a set of brackets to hold the calipers together ......

The zinc coating would provide protection against rust and corrosion. The larger bell housing helps reduce the rotational mass.

We paired the rotors with a set of Porterfields R4-S which has a higher friction coefficient then the stock pads due to its Kevlar and Carbon content.

You may be surprised but the one thing that would influence brake fade is the brake fluid. We know we have to test it at every servicing but to bleed it correctly is a matter of process or experience - this we will talk more about in the next post

Hi, I have a n20 520i 2012 in my garage and wanted to do the same upgrade for the braking, as I assume my caliper would need to be replaced is there any reference of parts of what I need to buy in order I can direct fit on it?

I assume direct fitment either F01 or 550i preferred? buy new or used preferred for the calipers?

edited: dumb question sorry!

so I assume as my n20 520i is a slow ride but I want a better brake performance, I would have to buy all of these? and just plug and play to it???

Front Rotors: 34116789543 and 34116789544
Front Calipers: 34116786827 and 34116786828
Front Caliper Carrier: 34116786829
Front Pads: 34116794464

correct me if I am wrong please, as if all good I am going to start hunting!!

Keep in mind that the US 535i and the US 550i use the same front brake rotors (348mm) and calipers. It's the Euro 550i that has the larger 374mm rotors.

E60 M5 calipers bolt directly onto f01 376mm rotors.

Thumbs up

Hi all,

I recently did the upgrade from the first page (items below) and thought I'd give some feedback. Thanks to .BMW. for the original research.

I got the calipers with carriers from the US off a 750i F01 and bought new discs. The purpose the car is used for involves lots of frequent hard braking with quite a bit of weight in the boot. The stock brakes always felt like they were on the limit and would start fading after 5 or 6 hard applications.

This new setup doesn't grab like the stock ones did in slow moving traffic and which is especially noticeable when auto-brake is enabled. I've not noticed any fade whatsoever during hard use and there's also less dust (bonus!).

2k miles and all good so far

Steve

550i in Europe instead uses 2-piece directional 374x36 rotors.

Now if only someone starts building cross drilled/slotted rotors in the 374/36 size, that would be awesome

Wanted to revive this thread regarding rear brakes. I am looking to use the 370x24 size rotors for rears but trying to figure out if the stock calipers will handle these. Any ideas?

update, I decided to go ahead and just purchased the APracing calipers and then used the brembo disc rotor 380mm on it and as I have also bough the f01 parts, just a thought can I install it to my rear instead of my front and still have my ebrake functioning?

https://www.brakenetic.com/

These guys are out of California and take solid OEM replacement rotors (can't recall the supplier, but I recognized the name) and slot/drill them. As I live in the UK, it ends up being cost prohibitive for me to buy from them due to import fees, but I did spend about 20 minutes on the phone chatting with a guy from Brakenetic. It seems like a pretty legit operation, but I obviously have no direct experience with them other than a conversation. The guy I spoke with was really knowledgeable, though.

Over here in Europe, I've found cross-drilled rotors right out of the box from a company called Zimmerman, so that's what I'll be buying when I finally pull the trigger on all this brake upgrade stuff.
