Decisions...decisions...help me!
Tale of two 535i's...
Looking to purchase a 535i this weekend. These two local cars caught my eye. For various reasons. New daily driver (VERY short commute) and quarterly drive from Texas to Florida. Current daily drive is a Cayenne turbo.... What do the experts think! 2013 - 52k miles 22.8k asking price Colour IMPERIALBLAU BRILLANTEFFEKT METALLI (A89) Upholstery LEDER DAKOTADF VENETOBEIGE (LCDF) Editions And Packages P337A M Sports Package S704A M Sports Suspension S710A M Leather Steering Wheel S715A M Aerodynamics Package Comfort And Interior Equipment S415A Sunblind Rear S416A Roller Sun Vizor Rear Lateral S423A Floor Mats Velours S430A Interioroutside Mirror With Auto Dip S431A Interior Mirror With Automaticdip S456A Comfort Seat With Memory S465A Throughloading System S488A Lumbar Support Driver And Passenger S4BNA Finewood Trim Ash Grain S4NEA Blowby Heater S4U1A Ceramic Appliques For Controls S4URA Ambient Interior Lighting S403A Glass Roof Electrical S4U2A Driving Experience Switch Incl ECO PRO Multimedia S609A Navigation System Professional S610A Headup Display S615A Expanded BMW Online Information S655A Satellite Tuner S677A HiFi System Professional DSP S697A AreaCode 1 For DVD S6AAA BMW TeleServices S6ABA Control For Teleservices S6NFA Music Interface For Smartphone S6NLA Connection Bluetooth USB Devices Incl S6NRA Apps S6UHA Traffic Information S6WAA Instrument Cluster Expanded Equipment S645A BMW US Radio - Bavsound Speaker Upgrade Available Driver Assistance And Lightning S508A Park Distance Control PDC S522A Xenon Light S524A Adaptive Headlights S575A Supplementary 12V Sockets S5ADA Lane Departure Warning S5AGA Lanechange Warning S5DLA Surround View S5DPA Park Assistent S534A Automatic Air Conditioning S5DSA Emergency Release Luggage Compartment Wheels And Drive S258A Tire With Runflat Functionality S2NDA BMW LA Wheel M Double Spoke 351 S2TBA Sport Automatic Transmission S2VBA Tire Pressure Display S212A Equipment Brake Syst Countryspecific Environment And Safety S316A Automatic Trunk Lid Mechanism S319A Integrated Universal Remote Control S322A Comfort Access S323A SoftCloseAutomatic Doors S3AGA Reversing Camera S840A High Speed Synchronisation S8KCA OELWARTUNGSINT 24000KM24MONATE S8S4A Decoding Variable Light Distribution S8SCA Telematics Access Requestcountryspec S8THA Road Sign Detection S8TNA Daytime Runlights Adjusvia Light Menu S302A Alarm System S823A Hotclimate Version S845A Acoustic Belt Warning S850A ZUSAETZL TANKFUELLUNG EXPORT S853A Language Version English S876A Radio Frequency 315 MHz S8SMA Car Ident Number Visible From Outside Individual Equipment S760A High Gloss Shadow Line S775A Headlining Anthracite Other Equipment S1CAA Selection Of COP Relevant Vehicles S925A VERSANDSCHUTZPAKET S9AAA Outer Skin Protection S1CCA Auto Startstop Function S1CDA Brake Energy Regeneration OR!! 2014 32k miles 24.5k asking price Colour JATOBA METALLIC (B65) Upholstery EXC.LED.NA.MOCCA EXKLUSIVNAHT (MO (LZMW) Editions And Packages P7S2A Luxury Line Comfort And Interior Equipment S423A Floor Mats Velours S430A Interioroutside Mirror With Auto Dip S431A Interior Mirror With Automaticdip S456A Comfort Seat With Memory S465A Throughloading System S488A Lumbar Support Driver And Passenger S494A Seat Heating Driverpassenger S4BNA Finewood Trim Ash Grain S4NEA Blowby Heater S4URA Ambient Interior Lighting S403A Glass Roof Electrical S4U2A Eco Pro Multimedia S609A Navigation System Professional S610A Headup Display S655A Satellite Tuner S688A HarmanKardon Surround Sound System S697A AreaCode 1 For DVD S6ACA INTELLIGENTER NOTRUF S6AEA TELESERVICES S6AKA CONNECTEDDRIVE SERVICES S6AMA REAL TIME TRAFFIC INFORMATION S6APA REMOTE SERVICES S6NSA KOMFORTTELEFONIE MIT ERW SMARTPHON S6WAA Instrument Cluster Expanded Equipment S645A BMW US Radio - Bavsound Speaker Upgrade Available Driver Assistance And Lightning S508A Park Distance Control PDC S575A Supplementary 12V Sockets S5A1A LED Fog Lights S5DLA Surround View S524A Adaptive Headlights S534A Automatic Air Conditioning S5DSA Emergency Release Luggage Compartment Wheels And Drive S205A Automatic Transmission S255A Sports Leather Steering Wheel S258A Tire With Runflat Functionality S2FVA 19LM RAEDER VSPEICHE 366 S2VBA Tire Pressure Display S212A Equipment Brake Syst Countryspecific Environment And Safety S316A Automatic Trunk Lid Mechanism S319A Integrated Universal Remote Control S322A Comfort Access S323A SoftCloseAutomatic Doors S3AGA Reversing Camera S3DZA ENTFALL ZUSATZSCHRIFTZUG AUSSEN S8KLA OELWARTUNGSINT 15000KM12MONATE S8S4A Decoding Variable Light Distribution S8TNA Daytime Runlights Adjusvia Light Menu S302A Alarm System S823A Hotclimate Version S845A Acoustic Belt Warning S850A ZUSAETZL TANKFUELLUNG EXPORT S853A Language Version English S876A Radio Frequency 315 MHz S8SMA Car Ident Number Visible From Outside Other Equipment S1CAA Selection Of COP Relevant Vehicles S1CBA CO2 Package S925A VERSANDSCHUTZPAKET S9AAA Outer Skin Protection S1CCA Auto Startstop Function S1CDA Brake Energy Regeneration I am a sucker for the brown on brown......the blue and tan is OK - but I test drove the m sport today and pretty impressive. Assuming the only difference in drive with the luxury will be the exhaust sound and stiffness in the suspension? The 2014 also a bit cleaner, 1 owner compared to 2 on the 2013. 2014 also upgrades some of the electronics etc. Both are RWD. But 2013 has the rear shade! Thanks in advance for your 2 cents! Neither.
There are other differences. To me they matter. Also not being a fan of the brown, nor brown on brown. Fairly enough I don't like the other combo either. They do have a point about the LCI though. I would also have to work on both prices, a bit high. |

I note the following pluses for the 2013 over the 2014:
- 704 suspension (a big deal from may posts I've read) - lane departure and lane change warnings - M-Sport styling including wheels and aero - ceramic controls It's not a slam-dunk to me to suggest the 2014 is the way to go, and in fact I would probably consider the 2013 first but would certainly want to drive both of them. I base this on my beliefs that the general differences between pre and post LCI models are relatively minimal, the 3 litre 535i inline 6 is a great motor on which the extra miles will not be a problem, and in my case, M-Sport styling is a must-have.

If those were my only 2 options, 2014 without a question. 20,000 less miles for just a little more money. I much prefer the M Style, but miles is miles.

I'd take the 2nd one with the red seats (2014).
First one is optioned best. Comfort access is nice. But I like the brown seats. Be easier if you just summarized with the packages and not list every feature (shorter also). Last pic looks like a M5 (look at fenders + rotors). Definitely not the car you're thinking of. |

I would recommend the 2013. I personally have almost the identical car with almost the same options. I think the only difference is mine is black on black with the ventilated seats.
The ceramic controls are amazing and very high end. The gear shifter is more ergonomic and is wrapped in leather where it connects to the center console. Those comfort seats are a must have. The wrap your body very well and you can even adjust the upper part of the back separately. The safety features are a must have as well. Couldn't tell if it had heads up display or not. Mine had it and I couldn't own a car without it. As far as the suspension and the drive goes, it's night and day IMO between the M sport and the regular. The M sport car handles a lot better and sticks to the road like glue. I take ramps at 60 or above mph with no issues. It's a head suspension on the other hard. Tougher than the non M sport version. The regular is definitely smoother but doesn't handle as well. One major difference between the 2013 and the post LCI 2014 is the headlights. The 2013 has LED turn signals vice the 2014 and newer have a halogen bulb turn signals. Fog lights on the 2013 on the other hand are halogen vice LED on the 2014. Hope thus helps. I will add more if I think of anything else. In the mean time feel free to ask me anything u want. Oh and by the way, the price should be negotiated down a bit. It's a little high. My car has 75k miles and is running like a champ. I have yet to fix anything major on it aside from regular wear and tear. I bought it new. I am looking to sell mine soon for about $18k or $19k. So you get the price on the 2013 down a bit. The only reason I am selling mine is cause I am buying an X7. Family is getting bigger and with 4 kids it's getting tough loading them all in the 535. |

My impulse reaction is to go with the 2015 model; but I haven't looked at them thoroughly yet. Also, there is more information I would want to know such as the number of previous owners, whether the 2015 will be CPO, service histories for the vehicles, etc
