I know that some guys use the n53 head cause it has di and it flows way better than n54 anyway so would make sense that the n52 cam on n55 would do the same

I know the owner of this car and he told me that the N53 cam makes good power.

So is the N52 cam a worthwhile and viable swap for those of us on a stock turbo with upgrades? Judging from the power it makes throughout the powerband, especially up top, it seems like it would be. Fairly straightforward job. Obviously I would not expect those kind of gains unless I had a stage 2 turbo, but it seems like this would be beneficial for everyone. Would love to hear from those that are more versed in the technical aspects of this engine.

Looks like some pretty solid before and after data. Kinda hard to argue with... Looks like a good upgrade. Not just the #'s but the power band shift is great.

Here's a pretty long discussion on it on spool street.

https://bmw.***********.com/threads/...n-an-n55.5722/

Overall, I don't know if it's worth the money.

Edit: Replace the * with spool street. Minus the space. Is spool street censored on this forum...?

Wow, can I have the last 45 minutes of my life back now? Finally they got to some decent data, but... just... wow. I'm not going to post over there anytime soon.

Yea to be honest it seems like people just yelling at each other back and forth, and the kinda technologically clueless OP of the video didn't help. He couldn't figure out how to submit logs to datazap and had someone else do it lmao

Alright just because I let numbers speak rather than opinions, I went and did some quick research and I pulled this information from MyWikiMotors.com so take it with a grain of salt, BUT....

N55 CAM SPECS
Duration 255 INT/261 EXH
Lift 9.9mm INT/ 9.7mm EXH

N52 CAM SPECS
Duration 255 INT/ 263 EXH
Lift 9.9mm

Again, I am not certain of the validity of this information. But unfortunately this is all I've come across. Does anyone have any different information that'd want to share?

Because (again, just based on this one website's information) this doesn't seem like a worthwhile improvement for the labor involved. The INT cams spec identical. The SLIGHTLY longer duration & SLIGHTLY larger lift on the EXH cam would spool the turbo quicker, but as for actual power... idk

Share your data please! I'd love to see an actual before and after dyno too! lol. This is all the data I have to go off on and it's not looking promising based off of it.

Did u read that huge thread on the other site? They go through the same argument and have done the research. Let me save you the pain: from a data standpoint adding the cam was NOT the only change. He also retuned the car that was previously on a bad tune. So with more than one factor his results were invalid.

I spoke with a tuner and he said he could get me 30-40 HP over the OTS tune from MHD, if I added an air intake at the same time I couldn't attribute all the added HP to the intake!

The only real upgrade is remove n55 and install s55.
