That's a lot of $ being thrown at it. Why wouldn't you just take it to shop/expert? Hopefully it comes down to your throttle body. But if not just throw in the towel and take it in. Definitely check your fuel pressure. It could very well be the hpfp

Yeah, that’s the last attempt i’m going to do.
So guys I'm getting closer to the root cause... ISTA managed to (finally) throw several codes on the TB! I've never been so happy to see a fault code It said something like: Emergency-position and winding mechanism defect. Also there was a huge difference between live and fixed-values. Now it makes all sense: since the TB did not open properly, the engine did not get the required air-flow - hence SYSTEM TOO RICH So it should be shipped tomorrow. I will let you know. Thanks for the support guys |

Hello guys.
I'm back again... I finally found the REAL CULPRIT! IT WAS THE CHARGEPIPE O-RING...The pipe itself was not securly atteched 100% to the intercooler and the O-Ring was fitted so lose inside the pipe that it wound up on itself. Since i didnt have a new one, i removed 2 cm from the O-ring and glued it together with crazy-glue. It is bomb-tight now. Also pay attention to the orientation Now it makes sense... Since air escaped from this seal, less amount of air entered the engine, hence P0172 "system too rich". Means either too much fuel (or in my case) less air detected by the 02 sensors. Hi, I have similar symptoms on my 2013 528i - N20 engine (4 cylinders 2.0) twin turbo.
cold start - perfect, within a second, holds idle operating temp start - perfect, within a second, holds idle engine cooling down - about 30 mins after shut off, the dashboard temp gauge shows a bit above 70 deg. C. - it starts but really low idle and dies a few seconds after. it runs enough to start driving but then loses power, pressing gas does not help and dies in the middle of the road. Trying to start again, it cranks but dies right away. Wait for 5 or 10 minutes, starts again fine, or with some help - pushing the gas paddle to around 2000rpm, then let go of the gas, it settles on good idle and runs fine. the car runs super smooth, with no issues except this. What would be the recommended steps to check without wasting money or replacing a whole bunch of things without a clear fault found? The first time this happened I got a few messages on the dash - 1) engine malfunction and 2) something with stop/start. I did not see any message the next few times this happened. But the problem is very reproducible - get the engine to operating temp, shut off, have lunch / wait to ~30 minutes, try to start. It sounds like the air/gas mixture is not right only in this particular 'cooling down' temperature. What is likely the reason? Cold and fully warm engine - no problems at all. Thanks so much in advance. |
