Any relationship between the injector coils and the fuel injectors?
Greetings F10 board,
I have about 75,000 on my car, and had the injector coils all replaced in January of this year. Thank you Route 66. About a month ago, I experienced the drivetrain malfunction warning. It happened two other times while waiting for an appointment at the dealer. Diagnostics show three failures of the 5th cylinder fuel injector. I've no reason to think these two things are related, but also don't really have a basis for having an informed opinion one way or the other. But, could there be a connection between these issues? Many thanks, Bill

I've never heard of an injector coil replacement before. Do you mean ignition coil? If so, there's no real relation between the ignition coil and fuel injectors failing, you likely just got unlucky and had them fail in a relatively similar time frame.

Doh, yes I do mean ignition coil.
I have injectors on the brain. Thanks for your response. Bill

They do often fail due to age. It is best to replace each of them as a set so you wouldn’t run into another bad coil or injector down the road. If you have the coils out, I would recommend replacing the spark plugs as well if you haven’t replaced them. It is just one extra step.

I did just that in January, replacing all the coils and spark plugs.
The fuel injector is new, and the fault is only in the 5th cylinder. I wasn't thinking of proactively replacing all injectors at this point in time. Do you think that is a mistake (I am planning on selling this car next summer). Thanks, Bill

If you suspect cyl 5 ignition coil is faulty, do a quick swap erase codes and see if it changes. If not try spark plugs they are fairly cheap or you can swap those to see if it follows. Thats assuming the spark plugs are still in good shape.

Thanks,
3 faults and corresponding warnings, all on the 5th cylinder. Warranty is covering. Spark plugs only 9 months old, so they should be fine. Warranty company I suppose understandably doesn't want to pay for 7 additional injectors and hopefully won't every have to! Bill

Yea, warranty companies will try their best to pay the least amount. Paying for 7 additional is a preventative measure. They will not do that. Wish there is one that would lol
