Summer tire - Mid budget Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ vs Indy 500
Hi guys, planning to change my summer tire and I want something descent at a reasonable price.
I do not track my F10, it's BM3 Stage 2 with the stock brake system. I want the most traction, most braking under $1000US My research show I am between those two, does anybody have experience with these ? Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ 98Y VS the Firestone Indy 500 98W ? Also I was thinking to go 275/35/19 in the back and 245/40/19 in the front. I think the Michelin is a better quality tire, not too sure if I can trust the Indy 500 when doing a top speed over150mph Last edited by T-Bone18; 03-25-2021 at 10:13 AM.. |

The Indy 500 are just too much of a good value for what I do. Last edited by T-Bone18; 03-26-2021 at 09:45 AM.. |

Don't discount the Pilot Sport All Season 4 if they come in your size. They're supposed to be quite remarkable and may extend your "summer tire" season by weeks or months at the edges of the season where it's cold but not necessarily snowy or icy. I'm seriously thinking about it when my 4S are done, and I haven't owned a set of all season tires since 2001.
It seems like the PSAS4 may be as good a summer tire as PS2s even though they are "all season" based on some things I've seen out there. https://www.michelin.ca/en/auto/tire...t-all-season-4 |

I like that the Michelin last longer too 20 000KM more is huge, but as long I get tracking. I'm in Ottawa and we don't see alot of people who wants to race at a red light anyway, my pull are mostly on the highway. Otherwise with the F10 when driving in the city, I need distance between stop sign, the car feel too big to drive fast for a stop and go. The one you mention does not fit in my size. What do you think of the A/S 3+ 98Y ? Last edited by T-Bone18; 03-26-2021 at 09:43 AM.. |

I went from summer hankooks to A/S 3+. Lose a
tiny bit of performance for what I’m expecting much longer life. I literally got 9k miles on the rear for summer tires. It just got too much... I’m happy with the change. It’s also just my daily |

Did you go square or staggered tire with the Michelin ? I'm thinking to go square to improve overall tire wear and life. Last edited by T-Bone18; 03-26-2021 at 09:01 PM.. |

I just got a set of a/s 3+ 255/35/20 + 285/30/20 and I'm pretty happy with them especially after switching from pilot sport summer track tires. Doing around 120 seems pretty nice and smooth and grip overall has been pretty solid.

What is your winter vehicle? I drove my xDrive through three Ottawa winters with good snow tires, and it was unstoppable! We'd get 40cm of snow (15") and I would still go anywhere even before the plows got to our street in the 'burbs. I guess I'm saying that if you are going to go with summer or all season tires, then if you had a good set of winter tires as well, you'd have an all-weather car good at everything. Sorry in advance for the side-track of this thread.

Cornering with a 5 series is kind of crazy in the street. It feel big and fast coming in the corner with automatic transmission. I miss my manual shifting when the car slow down during downshifting with compression. I find the automatic transmission is a very very different ride in the corner + the steering a lot bigger, I miss driving a smaller car already. I'm already starting saving money for a M2 manual transmission or maybe I need to go with the H&R spring + Xhp

I have KW V3 coilovers, the car corners flat with very little understeer. This is not the typical F10 and complimented by the AS3+. They go back on the car in two weeks.

Thx for the info, more than likely I will go with the A/S 3+ 98Y. Next thing I have to decide is if I want to go with 275 in the back or square. |
