Aftermarket struts/shocks for 550I?
Hi ya'll,
I am looking at getting H&R supersport lowering springs and I saw some things about the OEM shocks going out with those. What are some good aftermarket shocks/struts to pair with H&R lowering springs for a 2012 bmw 550I xDrive? I know everyone will suggest KW coilovers but I can't get myself to spend 2k+ on my suspension sadly. |

Anyway you look at it, KW's are your best option. I've contemplated this same issue for 3 years since getting my 550i and finally sucked it up and bought the V3s.
There is only one another brand that makes them for the xDrive: Godspeed Project. They're under $1k. For me at least, the decision to spend the extra $1k was based on brand, warranty, and industry leadership in this space. Lesson learned for me: Check to see if Bilstein makes Coilovers and B6/B8s for the car before buying next time :-) Quote:
They don't make an xDrive version, unfortunately.

Ya, after all of my research, brands like BC Racing BR coilovers, only for RWD.. only coilovers I saw are the KW for AWD. I know they are great but I am a college kid, so sometimes spending 2k on coilovers may not be the best purchase. But I will contemplate it for a little longer haha. |

I have an Xdrive, Bilsteins only have RWD if I remember correct ;/. That was the setup I was going to go (Bilstein Shocks with H&R Lowering Springs), but can't

Check Silvers NeoMax, couple guys have them. That’s what I’m buying for my xDrive 550i. Also a guy on YouTube does a tutorial install on his 535i on YouTube. “Thic garage” is channel. He loves them.

Did you ever end up getting these? If so, how do you like them? Did you install or did you have a shop install?

I just ordered them. Ill be having a local shop in my area install them. I opted for the swift spring upgrade. Ended up being $1450 all in. I’ll post some before and afters once it’s completed, along with a review for anyone who cares.

Silvers NeoMax follow up
Quick update... picked up my car today. I mentioned I opted for Silvers Neo Max over other brands. I ordered these on Black Friday, and opted for the Swift Springs “upgrade”. Order total was $1450. It was recommended by silvers for a more linear ride, and supposedly more comfortable than what the standard spring rides like. When I picked up the car my tech commented on how surprised he was on the quality of ride. I unfortunately don’t have a comparison other than stock suspension with this car. I have owned on a previous car Kw’s. I can say the ride quality is comparable to those. I only have less than 20 miles for my review, but love it thus far!!

Silvers use linear springs, they're going to throw you around on bad/uneven pavement. Even the swift upgrade is still using linear, albeit higher quality ones. It's kind of just how things shake out with linear vs progressive springs.
