I just noticed the next set of restrictions are coming in. BMW is now adding "Removal of non-contact tailgate" to my G30. The tailgate is still opening and closing electronically, but they have removed the kick to open function.

We're definitely at the point, though, where BMW at the very least needs to make some official statement like "Production of model lines X, Y, Z are currently shut down for an unknown length of time. Similarly, options A,B,C,D, on models X,Y,Z are not available for now."
BMW loves ambiguity and leaving it up to us to guess what we're buying or getting...

I don't expect them to offer any "clarification" until MY2022... And even that is questionable.

I guess, but my partner has "must need" features and it's a losing battle if we're downgrading tech/functionality of our current car because of these supply chain issues, meaning Volvo unfortunately wins by default.

Correct, this is being removed from my m550i scheduled for production next week. Not a feature I care about fortunately.

GM said the chip situation remains fluid and will continue to disrupt production. It said it is optimistic it can make up ground in the second half of the year and continues to prioritize production of large pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles, its biggest money makers.

So GM is doing the same thing that BMW is doing...prioritizing its high profit units.

Are there any restrictions on i3 options?

We're trying to order an i3s REX right now and our CA can't seem to be able to select HK in the ordering system even though that I can select it online in the configurator and get a build code! Also 6NS Enhanced USB and Bluetooth plus Smartphone Integration is completely removed from the online configurator!

Interesting these things. I've got a 2015 435i and was looking to move to a Tesla Model 3 due to some changes at work.

Anyway, the Tesla forums are up in arms about Elon and Tesla removing the Radar from vehicles, and the passenger lumbar.

Tesla is trying to move to their Vision system (all camera based and no lidar/radar), which was a goal for years now, but the radar/chip/supply issues has crunched them as well for common things used in many manufactured vehicles and technology. So all vehicle this month and forward being delivered are radarless and have technical limits at this point to deal with the camera only situation.

Then, people angry about the pass lumbar...Elon's tweet was kind of stupid why, saying people don't use it according to logs. Well no kidding, once it is set, it really doesn't get touched!

This supply issue is no joke for many industries now.

Just for added context, things could be much worse for BMW.

This Ford Dealer Normally Stocks 1500 Cars; Now They Have 30

-We checked out a local high-volume Ford dealer, Varsity Ford, which has only a couple dozen new vehicles on a lot that normally has hundreds in stock.

-We also checked out the lots near Ford's Rawsonville plant outside Detroit, where large numbers of F-150s and other vehicles sit parked, waiting for chips to come back in.

I rarely bother using it but once you get the hang of it, it works very well and consistently.

I've ordered a 7 series, now so far there has been no mention of any issues but given that it comes with most of the stuff they are removing as options for the other cars it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks, I've also ordered the executive drive pro which is a chip/controller fest so I'm told.

But no mention of anything 7 related on the list posted above (which I hope is good news)

This shortage is affecting many industries. I am into home theater, and some devices won't be available for months.

There is a Service Bulletin on the Receiver Audio Module, which impacts the HK System.

We fortunately ordered our X2 in early April and took delivery in late May. My wife was able to get the options she wanted (mainly HK) and I was able to get mine (HUD and CarPlay). I think we would have delayed our order if those were unavailable.

Yep, learned it the hard way! Thanks to my CA we managed to get one of the last remaining i3s production slots for US only to learn that we have to settle for the mediocre base sound system! Our current i3 has HK so it's gonna be a terrible and noticeable downgrade

There is always aftermarket. I suggest waiting until the chip shortage stabilizes.

BMW Provides Update on Chip Shortage; Warns Supply is Critical, Output to Suffer

BMW warns chip supply shortage 'critical', output to suffer

FRANKFURT, July 2 - BMW (BMWG.DE) warned a chip shortage that has plagued the car industry may lead to further lost production, saying on Friday it showed no signs of abating and supply would remain tight in the second half of the year.

Production was being halted at various sites, either on a daily basis or individual shifts, Milan Nedeljkovic, BMW board member in charge of production said, adding that lost output was around 30,000 "units" so far this year.

He added further shortfalls were possible.

"Semiconductor supply is really critical," Nedeljkovic told reporters at an event to mark the start of serial production of BMW's iX electric sport utility vehicle.

"The outlook for the second half of the year, too, remains critical. The ... initial assumption, that it will be brought under control fairly soon and be covered more or less in the first half of the year, is difficult."

Nedeljkovic made the comments as BMW said it plans to significantly ramp up production of electric vehicles at its Dingolfing plant, which accounted for more than a tenth of its total production last year, helped by its iX SUV.

The luxury carmaker said it made more than 18,000 electric cars at the site last year, accounting for about 8% of production, adding that share will be doubled to 16% in 2021.

BMW also said that half of the vehicles produced at Dingolfing would be electrified by the middle of the decade.
