Thinking about switching to a Mac but...

I have some questions.

1. Are there any Torrent programs available for the Mac? P2P clients?

-I download a lot of songs and movies so this is kinda important

2. How hard is it to burn dvds? Sometimes I back up movies I have bought and was wondering if its easy to do this on a mac

i want to make the switch but I'm so unsure....

what are the downsides?

1. Yep plenty Torrent programs out there for MAC
2. Easy as hell, drag and click.

honestly no downsides.
sounds like you are a music/movie guy like me
iMac 24'' and MacBook Pro 15.4'' perfect setup for me
run with it

once you go mac, you'll never go back..
don't flame me (those who disagree with me)

the only downside i find to mac is not enough keyboard shortcuts to do simple functions.

Music and movie guy I am..lol but I was thinking about going with a Macbook 2G 160GB version...will this not be enough? How much space does Leopard take on your HD?

the 13.3 inch screen is small but I figure if I want a bigger screen I can just plug it into my 46" tv

if you have leopard you can customize any menu command into a keyboard shortcut. Honestly the only downside to getting a mac is the price other than that its great.

The 15" MacBook Pro is worth it. LED backlighting and a dedicated GPU( 8600M GT with 256 MB or 512 MB of VRAM), plus the aluminum enclosure is well worth the extra money. Integrated graphic cards FTL.

I have a 17" Macbook Pro with the hi res LED backlight and I couldn't be any happier with it.

Yeah dude.. grab a mac..... For torrents, use azureus.. It's quick and reliable.... And if you're into the whole ripping/burning movies... use Mac The Ripper and Handbrake to comress it if you wanna put it on iphone etc... Pretty legit freeware...

Leopard is pretty sweet esp if you compare it to windows operating systems and is much improved over osx tiger ....

Make sure to grab at least 2 gigs of DDR..

if you play games or are into editing... i'd upgrade your vid card in house ...

& get the apple care protection.... its well worth the extra 180 bucks in case something goes wrong.

that's nice and all but if I don't play any games whats the real benefit of having the graphics card? Just as a heads up I'm trying to drop around a grand...I'll be getting this for 1100

13.3-inch glossy widescreen display
2GB memory
160GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

Macbook's are only glossy. No matte option. MBP's are matte standard with glossy as a free option. Another plus for the MBP.

Anybody? Benefits of having a non-integrated video card?

It frees the CPU from taking over any processes the GMA X3100 can't handle. So for any kind of graphic intense apps you may use it is better have a dedicated GPU. Also, a dedicated GPU can give you more screen choices as it can power screens like Apple's 30" display which an integrated unit can't.

An actual video card makes the overall system significantly faster. No CPU cycles nor main RAM are used for video processing so the computer is a good deal faster. Even though CPU/RAM wise the MB and MBP are close, the MBP is a considerably faster unit due to it's graphics solution.

I'm a big fan of color rendition on the glossy and how everything just seems to "pop" more. It's kind of like how a plasma just "looks" better and has nicer colors than an LCD. That being said I'm afraid if I get it I'll never be able to see it due to glare from the sun definitely and possibly indoors as well.
