my service advisor said it was supposed to do that..thats why there are drain holes in the seals, so they did not fix anything. I don't know what to think about it at this point.

Hi I had the same problem I washed the car and when I opened the door I saw water coming out from the lower part of the door between the trim and the door panel. I took the car to my mechanic and took off the trim and saw that the seal of vapor barrier had failed, then we fixed with a black sealer [used for windshields] hopefully it holds

It rained pretty heavily last week, and I just happened to open the rear door the next day. Bunch of water drained out of it! Sounds like it's a known thing... maybe normal, maybe a problem? I can't image it's good to have a bunch of water sitting in there!

Sounds like a plugged drain hole.

It is intended that water gets into the doors, but not the interior of the car. If water gets inside the car and soaks the rear carpet, then you need to fix the vapor barrier seal (or you have a sunroof drain tube clog which I believe can also work its way to the rear floor).

Check that the drains at the bottom of the door (front and rear) are clear and unobstructed. Check that the door sill cover is secure and nothing is added to it (e.g. some extra piece of something that was there from the factory attached, tape over it, whatever). Extra thickness or the cover being out of position can block the drain when the door is closed. I had a piece of wide painters tape holding down one of the thin pieces of metal on the trim and it interfered with proper drainage so it doesn't seem to take much.

It's still not ridiculous that some additional water leave the door when the door is opened. On my E39 this was part of my car wash routine for years. i.e. Open the door and let a little dribble out while you're drying the car. It's possible that something about the way you parked held more water in the door than normal or one or both drain channels are clogged.

That failure allows water from the door to enter the cabin, and is absolutely something to keep an eye on.

However, that failure has no bearing on water entering the door from the environment, or water being able to exit the door via the drains.

Yes, agree, two different issues. One requiring attention and the other being totally normal.

Nothing unusual about water dropping out of the lower door drains after rain, when we open the doors. How we park does influence how much water can easily drain out.
