How old is the battery?

Hi all, so I purchased my MY 14 F10 last year. I have no idea how old the battery on it is so tried to look at it and found no dates. The only thing I saw is 03/14 on the terminal (pic below). Is that the manufacture date of the battery?

The battery works fine…no error codes (used BimmerCode) or issues starting the vehicle.

Thanks in advance!

I thought the Date Code Stamp is in the Week/Year (WW/YY) format....which would make your Battery MFG Date of January 2014....either way, it's the original battery.

Wow…I always thought these batteries last max 5 years or so….8 years+ and still running is impressive I guess

I think ~5 years is the recommended expectancy.

I purchased a 15 535i and am still on the original battery.

I use Bimmerlink to monitor the state of charge and will periodically hook the car up to a battery tender to bring it back to 100% (about every 4 weeks depending upon my driving habits - battery normally is at ~80% capacity)

Nice! I live in a condo so can't hook up my car to anything….my battery generally stays in the 60-70% range. I am planning to change it now before the next winter arrives

Me too @ before next winter (~8 yr Battery life is enough for me to justify a preventative maintenance swap for something that is still working)

Good to hear @ 60-70% range (and no issues I'm assuming).

I get a little excessively worried when I get into the 60s ever since I had the Comfort Access Handle drain (the reason I bought the tender in the first place)

Changed mine at just over 10-years, hadn't failed, but didn't want to risk taking into last winter. Garage stated it was ~67%, when they checked it before replacing.

BMW FOREVER, If you have the AGM 105A-Hr capacity battery, P/N 61-21-2-353-814, it has been replaced/superseded by P/N 61-21-5-A40-E33.

I just purchased P/N 61-21-5-A40-E33 over-the-counter from my local BMW dealership for $162 (US Dollars)...and just checked, the price jumped up 19% - yikes.

Wow thanks for that info. I am looking to purchase from my local dealer too. Did you do the labour yourself? If so, what did you do with the old battery?

The dealership required the old battery, else I would have incurred an "extra" core charge....$25 or something like that....

I took the battery out myself, then took it to the dealer for the exchange, came home and installed the new battery...I think it took longer to register the new battery....I buttoned everything up, and used ISTA to register the battery, but ISTA needed the 2-D code value (also printed under the matrix) off the new battery (so take a picture of it prior to installing), so I had to take out the trunk lining - again.

This is a "condo" friendly DIY task..just don't close your trunk after you've removed the battery (or have your doors unlocked AND your rear seat in the down position, else you'll be posting a thread on what it takes to access your trunk w/o a battery)

If you use a Foxwell Scanner NT510, NT530 or similar, it does not need the new battery code when doing a battery registration...but I can't confirm that it actually registers the battery - correctly.

I have a ‘14 640i GC and it still is on the original battery, which is surprising given the number of electronics on the car. Maybe BMW got the charging system right.

My comfort access in on the fritz - I think my battery is on its way out. Original to the car in late 2013.

Is there a way to see charge level in Bimmercode?

Not in BimmerCode but in BimmerLink there is a battery button which shows charge

....You can monitor voltage charge value it in your Kombi's (aka instrument cluster) hidden menu function (and battery voltage when you turn off engine, but not ignition)....
