ambient lighting
I have a 2013 535i and had a question on the ambient lighting. I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find the answer on this. I've noticed the dials on my center vent light up orange at night. Are the drivers side and passenger side dials for the vents supposed to light up as well? can someone verify that for me on their car.
thanks so much. |

Center vents don't light up but are lite from above by the downward lighting in the roof console. To verify, put your hand over the vent area and the top of your hand will be lite from above.

Hey Gilgorm thanks for the reply, I actually went out just now and checked, they center vents do have their own lighting. I had to take a picture just to double check that. LOL. The drivers side and passengers side do not light up, I took a picture of that as well and attached both.... the flash is on for the drivers side picture but trust me, it doesn't light up orange like the center vent ones do.
550reasons, from the looks of the link that you attached, the photos seem to be the same, center dial's light up the driver and passenger side vents do not. anyone else can confirm/deny? sorry for pic quality, I needed to keep re-sizing...LOL thanks guy! |

The link seemed to have brighter lights than in my car. Does anyone else think so?

I have a 2011/04 build F10 535i. I have ambient lighting but the "BMW" in my door sills doesn't light up. It looks like it's made of the plastic that would transmit light. Should it be lighting?

Here is a pic of the ambient light in my car with beige interiors, mine is a 2012 model year. The lights look pretty much as bright as it is in the pic but the color of the light is off, in real its more of a deeper orange.

Every time I go back and look at the picture I notice more lights that I see in my own car. First time, I didn't know there was lighting by the door handle. Now I see the picture, I didn't know there was lighting within the box region on the bottom. The storage!

I have it and had it on my E92 with brown. Its very subtle and basically I really don't notice it. its nice.
I just got my 535i black leather and its there, but like said its really not very prevalent. Its really effective as it does add to the "ambience" but should not distract. The photos in the link is looks off but that's typical of reds in digital photography. They often look not as they do with the naked eye. |

Basically what is happening is that the darker interiors are absorbing all of the light and the lighter interiors are reflecting more of the light. If you compare the 2 pics below, you will know what I mean. Even though the lights in the first pic seem brighter, you cannot see the light for the bottom storage at all because the lower area is black in color. Whereas in the second pic the lower area is light coloured so you can clearly see the light.
Its got to do with simple physics, black appears black because it absorbs all the light so not much reaches our eyes, white appears white because it reflects most of the light to our eyes and hence looks bright! |

You can get different color LED chips from this website:
https://www.benzinfabrik.com/de/led-...htung-fuer-bmw The upgrade is really simple, More info in this thread: Ambient lights - barely visible - new OEM LEDs? https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1847117 |
