What are these liquid that seems to be leaking from the valve cover area?

Hello everyone,

I noticed the following things on my relative's car under the hood. I can see oil must be leaking due to faulty valve cover gasket but I am not sure what these white marks are supposed to be.

Are these leaks from coolant that are just dried up? I am looking to order a new valve cover gasket but I wanted to see if this is a result of some leak other than oil so i can try to order + fix at the same time. I checked under the car and i didn't see any dripping fortunately.

Just fyi, the coolant tank looks empty but it's half-tank full.

Yes, dried coolant leaves a deposit like that. The bigger question is how it got there. Good chance of a high pressure leak somewhere that is spraying it about.

Oh hi Starada lol and thanks for response.

I will try to locate the leak by having the car running and replace whatever is causing. Hopefully i can replace it while doing the valve cover gasket which seems easier than E90 cars

It could be really old from a spill during a fill, but looks awfully specific to that one spot. Guessing there is a leak somewhere.

VCG is definitely easier on a F10... so much more room to work in there!
