Tint on any lights = 👎🏼 maybe for JDM but not a BMW but that's just my opinion. No hate intended toward your build. I just personally prefer safety over aesthetics. It's all personal preference and its what you like that matters in the end. |

The tint looks awesome, but there are major liability issues. In addition to financial liability, a person could possibly face criminal liability under certain circumstances.
Really bad idea. |

I posted this not for anyone's approval, but as part of a thread about Whitelines. I don't mind negative comments, as my style may not be yours. So suffice it to say that I happen to think the White line lights are beautiful. A two dimensional picture doesn't show the detail in them. They are every bit as quality as standard tails on the f10. JDM clear lights on Japanese cars these are not. To lump something that clearly is different into some cheap accessory isn't factual at all. They are an official Bmw accessory in Europe, & I made sure I went OEM. I also tinted my lights knowing the liabilities that can come with it & I appreciate the disclaimer. Thank you all for your comments, but it reminds me why I don't post a lot in enthusaist forums. I like reading them, but more often than not, the threads degenerate into ad hominem battles.
Peace out. |

I don't quite get your reply. You didn't want anyone's approval but you decided to construct a post that was one sided with your bias to the lights, similar to the replies to your car, in a thread that already had negative dynamics toward the general consensus of the tail lights? Then decided to post pics and now you're bitter because people don't agree with your justification as to why the white lines fit in. It's your car, do what you please but don't have a distasteful attitude when people give their opinion that doesn't necessarily coexist with yours when you post pics in the general section of an enthusiast forum. Posting pics of any mod is going to get backlash, people voice their opinion about their personal taste because that's what a forum is about. Chill out.

Reallybro, like the tinted tails, I've got the white lines on space grey and it looks way better than the red factory set up. I'll post a pic here tomorrow. Thinking about tinting to see how it looks. Anyway the "major liability issues" made me curious so I looked up Cali laws. It appears to be the same as in North Carolina. Lights must be red and visible from a distance of 500ft. This is basically 1/10 of a mile. Measure of the distance and have a friend video your brake and night running lights during the day and see how it looks. You should be fine but the video will give you an idea of how compliant with the law you are and what other drivers are seeing as they approach your car. |

Just did a quick reread, vehicles after 1969 the visible distance is 1000ft on taillights. 2/10 of a mile. I'd definitely do a distance/visibility check but you will be surprised how far away you can see them.

That said, even meeting a given State's requirements I wouldn't want to get caught up in a civil suit over it. BTW- I had white lines on my 2013 Titanium Silver 550 and thought they looked awesome. |

Hey Reallybro... like I mentioned before they look awesome white. I think tinted they probably look better in person but the photos probably don't do them justice.

Once I get my car back im also installing the white lines on my Dark Graphite 550. I bought the lightest tint lamin-x as well. Read where this film let's out approximately 90%of the light. Wanted something reminiscent of the e90 blacklines.
Reallybro, your lights look good. Not every mod people put on their cats is legal Fug It. |
