Ongoing remote locking issue - Diversity Antenna?
Hi folks,
I have a 2011 F10 and for the past year I've been having an ongoing issue with my key fob / remote locking. You can check my previous threads for full context, but TL;DR, I don't believe it's the key at fault anymore. Because recently my key fob (I only have the one) had been working flawlessly, but after some very heavy rain, it stopped working again. That made something click in my head and I realised that the previous issues tended to occur after heavy rain or having my car washed. Is it possible that the diversity antenna is at fault? I've checked for error codes and don't have anything relating to the remote locking system, and I don't have any water ingress in the car and there are no obvious signs of a leak. I'm not even sure if this is an issue on the F10 as the antenna is inside the car, but I know the diversity antenna in general can cause a lot of issues and I'm not sure what else it could be at this point. Something in the sharkfin? |

There are multiple aerials for comfort access…some are in the interior and some are on the exterior.
The shark fin attenna is for GPS/phone/satellite radio signals.

It sounds like you're on to something with the moisture intrusion... Isn't the DA under the rear headliner, but inside? Sharkfin area might be leaking, or even around rear window seal or sunroof? But like Qsilver7 is thinking, maybe another antenna or the CA module? I think that's under the dash, but maybe moisture there???

Hmm, interesting. I didn't realise there were so many. I had an issue with the vapour barrier leaking, but had it repaired a while ago. I wonder if that is still an issue and is causing a problem with the left and/or right antennas?
Do you know if there would be any errors? I checked with bimmercode and didn't see anything relating to the remote locking. |
