CIC Questions 2024
Hey! I have a 2011 535i Xdrive, with the CIC nav system, and base gauge cluster. I have an older nav map, and the dealer said there is a 2019 map update. I also have connected drive but from what I understand that is now defucnt. I have been using the nav system, as it is trivial to mess with. There is a google maps setting under the points of intrest in the set destinantion. Is there any way to access factory google maps. Given its an old cic system, I imagine everything is limited by lack of 3g usage. Any input is appreciated. Also if anyone has any cic pointers or tips, would love to hear them.

Your post contains confusing data…you may not get the correct info based on what you wrote.
I recommend pulling up your nav map VERSION (post a pic if you can) as well as the Google info you mention. I can’t tell if there’s aftermarket components added to your system or not…especially with the GOOGLE selection. I don’t recall ever seeing anything associated with google on my 2013 6 series that had the CIC iDrive system. If you select NAV to pull up the maps on the iDrive screen, then press the OPTION button and scroll down to select to see which version you have. You can see in the screen capture below that the PREMIUM version (which is usually what the CIC has) is higher than the 2019 nav maps you were told were available. I’m sure the nav maps are at least up to 2023 now:

Ah…thanks for the update. Since 3G is dead in the USA…unless you have some other aftermarket component that has a Wi-Fi connection…the Google search is dead…just like we can’t connect to BMW Online or BMW Connected.
BTW, a nav map update will also update your POI (point of interest) data that is also incorporated into iDrive. If you have nav maps & POI data that was out prior to COVID…you have a lot of businesses that are no longer viable or they’ve moved etc…so new nav maps will also update that info, too.

Hey! I also have 2011 F10 and I installed an MMI unit which offers CarPlay or android auto wired or wireless. Works flawlessly! Easy to install no more than two hours, and you could use Waze maps or Google maps. You can also add a camera system for your vehicle if it does not have it as a feature!
BTW It’s probably cheaper than dealership software. Last edited by Pizzaboss; 04-06-2024 at 05:15 PM.. Reason: Adding more info |
