2011 535xi GT N55 - ISTA 1C3102 oil pressure sensor too low before engine start
Hey yall. I could really use your help with troubleshooting this one. Just bought this car with 174k km and fixed a few things listed below.
Got this code on ISTA. 1C3102 - Engine-oil pressure sensor, plausbility : Pressure too low before engine start - Replaced the Oil Pressure sensor - Replaced, ignition coils, spark plugs, oil filter & cooler housing gasket, belt tensioner and both pulleys. - changed the oil filter cap to a URO metal one with a metal inner filter. (I heard that this can cause the oil pressure code, so will try to change it back to the plastic oil filter cap tomorrow) - reset adaptation ran well but a slight hesitation - I did the priming procedure and coolant purge procedure Details: Oil temp 102c - 105c Oil pressure at Idle = 1600 hPa / 1.6 Bars / 23 psi oil pressure during driving = is 4k hPa @ 1600 RPM to around 7k hPa @6k RPM |

On another note:
the Previous owner somehow stripped the oil pan drain plug -_- So i am installing a Helicoil to it. RealOEM.com It shows the drain plug as M12x16 Does the 16 stand for 16mm and does it mean its 16mm in height of the entire bolt or just the thread? I googled it and it says that the drain plug is M12 x1.5 thread |

1). 16mm is length of threads. full specs Oil Drain Plug With (12 X 1.5 X 16 mm)
2). Throw that URO oil filter cap with a metal inner filter in neighbor's pool and go back to original. You and your engine will be lot happier. |

Thank you for the suggestion, I swapped the oil filter cap back to stock, still the same issue exists.

In OP you said changed oil filter cap & metal inner filter. Last post swapped the oil filter cap back to stock. If I follow you correctly you must of remove that center piece of cap and installed just the cap? How about replacing inner filter unit back to stock?

Also while combing through ISTA, I see there is some sort of oil pressure control valve. No 11 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_4447 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...ve-11417622768 Could this be the reason why the oil pressure isn't high at start up? |

Even swapped out the oil pressure switch... Still have the same issue, but its only throwing a code for 1C3102 - Engine-oil pressure sensor, plausbility : Pressure too low before engine start Nothing else. I would like to no have to pull the oil pan on my driveway to find out if my oil pump is good if it doesnt really impact anything other than the oil pressure before engine start |

Never worked on this code personally. But... my first reaction is that I feel like you're chasing stuff for a different problem.
You don't log a low oil pressure code, or any other symptoms. You log a PLAUSIBILITY code. The oil pressure read is not low, it is implausibly low. Before the engine is even running. I think I reference I saw says that the DME is inferring oil pressure lower than atmospheric pressure. What is implausibly low oil pressure before the engine is even running? (Unless the code means that it's read while the engine is cranking on the starter but before it is running. I don't think a code is logged for that, or I would get that code briefly every time I changed the oil filter). Since you already replaced the sensor, I would personally start checking wiring. I would not expect this to be clogged VANOS solenoid screens and stuff like that. And I agree with whoever told you to go back to genuine oil filter cap. Are your oil pressure readings in the first post from a mechanical gauge, or from the same sensor that you already changed? |

Is the atmospheric pressure measured using the oil pressure sensor?
BMW F10 ECU Repair, Internal Atmospheric Pressure Sensor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsjlBJB2lRw Could this be causing the issue? Quote:

Found something interesting in this thread.
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1400631 "... the one on the intake manifold reads atmospheric pressure as soon you turn your key into ON position and the other one measures the turbo pressure, it is very unlikely to fail. i will switch them the one on the intake manifold with the one on the pipe as they have the same part number. it should give you a different DTC." I'm going to see if changing the 2 map sensors work. I bought a oscilloscope so I will try to test them out as well. |

Finally had some time on my hands to really get into the engine. A bit of an update so this issue only comes on once in a while:
I am gettings these codes now.... 1C3102 - Engine-oil pressure sensor, plausibility: Pressure too low before engine star 130104 - VANOS intake: Control fault, camshaft stuck 120408 - Charging pressure control: Switch-off as consequence INFO 132201- VAnoS inlet: group error INFO 132301 - Vanos: group error Quote:

Looks like previous owner/s really believed BMW's oil service intervals but used cheap oil in the process.
NOTE: There arent any deep scores that i can see. Do i need to take one of the camshaft bearing caps off and check? My plan right now: 1) is use a brush and vaccum as much gunk as i can from the top end 2) check the vanos motor and gear for wear, if any replace that... i already bought it so might just replace it anyways. 3) "flush" the engine (without starting it) like 5 times with clean oil to ensure there isnt anything stuck or lodged into the middle of the engine 4) put the valve cover back on and start the engine and run a engine flush like liquimoly 5) drop the oil pan, check the oil pump chain and guides and tensioner and clean the oil pump pick up tube.
