F10 Tension Strut Torque Specs?
I need to swap out the front tension struts, and am wondering the torque specs... I can't find anything official and the unofficial stuff is inconsistent. Just wondering what the frame bolt torque is as well as the ball joint nut?
Any official numbers out there? ![]() Last edited by StradaRedlands; 07-19-2024 at 12:34 PM.. |

Let's hope I get this right for you.
Per the RealOEM diagram, I think you are referring to item 5 in the 1st figure, which, per TIS, is item 3 in the 2nd figure, which is called the "trailing link" and also the "tension strut"....so if I got it wrong, please let me know the correct item number. For the F10, the front axle side is 1AZ = 65NM + 180 degree For the F10, the Swivel Axle side is 2AZ = 100NM + 90 degree Note: TIS "Swivel Axle" = RealOEM "Carrier" Last edited by M_Bimmer; 03-15-2025 at 12:48 PM.. |

I just purchased PowerFlex Thrust Arm bushings for my '14 535. Debated long and hard to replace the whole arm from BMW....but want to try and tighten up the front suspension on my 10 year old BMW.
If it doesn't work out, I'm only out $160, and I'll spend the $550 for new arms, left and right. |

THANK YOU M_Bimmer!!! EXACTLY what I was hoping for... something official and confirming which part is which! The other components were deemed good enough, so I'm just doing the tension strut (not thrust arm!). I debated on whether do do bushings only, but just decided to swap the part out and not mess with any of that. Going to lift the front end and do an oil change, these, and front brakes at the same time. Leaves me with the valve cover and guibo to still do. It's getting there!
THANKS again and I updated with the correct nomenclature!!! |

We are probably close enough in geography that I'm sure I'd be able to lend you my bushing extraction tool, if you ever need it, without too much trouble.....after I use it twice
.I've got a mountain of vehicle work pilling up..... Along with the Tension strut bushings needing replaced on my F02, I have $1000 of brake pads and rotors sitting in the garage waiting for them to be installed on the 2014 F02, along with two transmission cooler O-ring seals right at the transmission cooler, needs replaced soon. It's making a mess on the driveway (good reason for my HOA to send me a unwarranted fine). The '14 535 needs a water pump, belt tensioner, and front tension strut bushings replacement too. BTW, the F02 B7 uses the same tension strut bushing as the F10 535. So I plan to use the Powerflex bushings on the F02 first. If I like it, the F10 gets them too - since I have the tool. If I don't like it on the F02, the F10 gets them anyways, and the F02 gets new BMW tension arm assemblies. So reality, I'm not going to "waste" $160 on the Powerflex bushings. |
