[F07]

Hello everyone,

I have a 2012 BMW F07 with 234,000 km.
I used to hear a slight whistling noise at low RPMs, but it didn’t really bother me—I assumed it was normal.

However, yesterday I removed the DPF, and now the whistling sound is much more noticeable, especially when I press the throttle and then lift my foot off.

There are no error codes showing, and I haven’t noticed any loss of power so far.
Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Any advice would be appreciated.

do you have a sound clip?... I've had a whistle myself for years after my ps2, no codes no problems, just wish I knew why it does it

Could be the turbo which is normal. You will hear that high pitch sound as it spools up especially if you have dp, intake, bov or any of those combo. The more the louder it gets.

Mine is a weird 2 stage stage (2 whistle for PS2 lol)whistle,I'll try and get a sound clip of it, pus, with my intake, you can hear the air getting sucked into the intake, sounds like a jet fighter.. pretty cool, but never had that in any of my intakes from all my cars

The whistling sound is a sign that the DPF has been removed or replaced with a straight downpipe. So it´s very normal. The DPF also acts as a "silencer," so you can hear from behind the car when it's running that the DPF is not in place. This is true of all diesel cars, regardless of brand.

Of course, the turbo also starts to whistle when there is more clearance in the vanes and this combined with the removed DPF can produce quite a whistling effect.
