Thanks! I've been enjoying it these last few months, now on the summer tires and the proper wheels. Unfortunately there's been a lot of shuttling between the local BMW dealer and the company where I bought it and should be under warranty (some mild "oil sweat", a GPS that loses itself at times). But it drives like a dream and I've also taken it onto the Autobahn in Germany for some early morning high-speed fun. Despite being considered "the boring generation", I think it's aged very well and people constantly mistake it for a much newer model.

Sounds like an oil leak; probably the valve cover gasket.

Oh yes, I know all about it. BMW said it was a disaster and they should replace the entire cover and oil pan to the tune of €2500, the company I bought it from and should cover it under warranty said “actually there’s nothing wrong”, so we’re in a “keep an eye on it” phase until it gets diagnosed as a serious problem. It’s been a very occasional whiff of oil (3x in 3000km), we’ll see. After the first diagnosis I did cancel my vacation plans unfortunately. And in the meantime the GPS has gone haywire so I can’t wait to take time off work to go back and beg for someone to take a look at it. The honeymoon period really is over… (sorry to derail the thread)

When my VC began to leak, it started with the very occasional whiff while sitting at idle. Gradually, over time, it will get worse. However, besides the smell, there's not a whole lot to be overly concerned about. It's just an oil leak that will need to be fixed eventually (where as oil filter housing leak will need to be addressed right away). In general, you'll always want to replace the entire valve cover + gasket when doing this job. Oil pan leaking as well?

Beautiful looking Bimmer, btw.

Thank you, yes, I'm very happy with the colour, options etc. The two-tone interior and the dark blue, the "Luxury" details, it's exactly as I wanted.

I'm sure the oil leaks/sweat are some maintenance that needs to be done eventually, just at the moment it's a tug-of-war of who is going to pay for it. The company who sold it to me and should cover it under warranty, or me once the warranty runs out (January). I was expecting to have to invest a bit in maintenance deferred by the previous owner so it's not such an issue. Planning to drive this one for many more years.
