2016 520d Propshaft

First post so please bear with me….

Car reached 100k miles so as a preventative measure, I got the timing chain done and an independent specialist.

As I was getting the dreaded vibration at the rear between 70-80mph, the place also did the 3 rear diff bushes and upgraded them to poly flex bushes. I also provided the part for the rear propshaft donut to be replaced.

The guy said to me he’s changed the front donut and I was confused as I went in for the rear. Little did I know there was a donut on the front which connects to the gearbox.

They said my car does not have two propshaft donuts and the rear is actually a CV joint. Is anyone familiar with this? I cannot for the life of me find the part number for the CV joint on the rear propshaft.

There are two versions. Your vehicle most likely have the version that only have one at the front.

Thanks for that. Would I have to buy a whole new propshaft or is the rear part changeable?

Unless it is damaged, I don’t see why you would need to replace the driveshaft. You only need to replace the Flex Joint (Guibo) which you already replaced. The center support and bearing may need attention if it vibrate during acceleration but that’s about it for your vehicle.

Reason I asked is because most people I spoke to said change the rear guibo and diff bushes which resolved their vibration at 70+. Turns out mine doesn’t have a rear guibo so maybe I’ll take a look at the centre support.

Thanks for your help.

Did replacing the diff bushes solve your vibration? I'm having the same issue.
