replaced rear spring in strut, issue lining up triangle.

Hey all.. I replaced the spring in a rear strut in my 2012 with electronic controlled suspension. One side broke, but replacing both. So I went through the process that I’ve seen on YouTube to replace it. Which that all went well.

But! (Always but). The triangle at the top is not ligning up to where it was before (like 2 inches off) I did use a different manufacturer that did say it was an alternative to the OEM version. But it all fits minus the alignment of the arrow. So if it can just “spin” that would be awesome. But the rubber seats that the spring sits in do not move.

Has anyone used aftermarket springs and have problems? Or do I just return them and try another manufacturer?

First image is the original spring, 2nd one is the new spring. And you can see the spring is farther to the right. Last pic is instill put it in the car and mounted it in the top. And you can see the bottom of the spring isn’t about a 45 degree angle.

I saw something in another post here about needing a laser and special tool to adjust it. But looking for other options.

Thanks for any help!

Disregard. I found that the rubber part of the lower seat will twist. I thought it was not movable but last. I rotated it and all is good!

Yeah me!

What brand did you go with for the coil springs? How long did it take you for this job? I have to replace both of rears.

I got them off eBay.. this was the title “★ NEW Rear Springs Pair for BMW 528i 535i F10 xDrive Active w EDC Made in Sweden”

Sold by Merkur Depot
150 dollars for 2 rear springs.

To do the first spring it went pretty quick after realizing those rubber pieces are not fixed. I think I got Lucky the first time cause the 2nd wheel I could not seem to get lined up right. It always seemed not lined up. It must have moved when I was decompressing the springs. That seems to take like 4 hours. To get it on and then mounted.

But still much cheaper the having it done at a shop so it was fine.

Yeah must be a dirt or moisture buildup area. Yours snapping in two locations is crazy. I could still drive mine with the. One at the bottom. It would just creek when I hit a bump. Or someone’s in the back.

Yeah the eBay ones worked for me. If your not sure which part number to give. If you give them your vin they can look it up. I did that with another online seller but they had nothing that could compost with the price. So I went there.

Good luck!!
