My son turned 18 yesterday. We spoiled him a bit but he’s been such a good kid. Working hard, staying out of trouble, paying his own way, (other than rent at my dad’s house that he left us, dad’s in memory care) living with his girlfriend that’s also working hard and helping pay. We feel like he deserved it.
We gave him new tint, CF hood install, a workout apparatus and this radar detector. We gave that to him before his b-day too so he could use it on the drive from San Diego to Las Vegas to visit his girlfriend’s parents. He said it definitely detected a few cops along the way. If it saves him from one ticket it will have been worth it. We had a simple little party for him. Home cooked meal and b-day cake. Last edited by FatesWarning; 01-27-2026 at 07:20 PM.. |

We’re dyno-tuning his 22yo brother’s ‘74 C3 corvette with the custom BBC bored and built 454 engine tomorrow. We’ll find out if the hp claims of 550hp+ pan out.

Installation of the CF trunk is next. He’ll have to save up for that one himself. We’ve been doing some great canyon (mountain) carving. We’ve gone on some really fun runs. He’s found a kindred spirt from his work. We’ve all been out on some pretty fun drives together. We’ve hit some really fun local spots: Mount Helix, Mount Soledad, Wildcat Canyon, Harbison Canyon and Sunrise Highway. Reliving some of the favorite drives of my youth. It’s been cool to share these roads with my boys. One of the really fun roads, Mission George father junipero serra trail has been made one way, slowed down and shut at sunset though. We want to follow some of the drummer of Rush, Neil Peart’s favorite drives, as chronicled in his many novels. Last edited by FatesWarning; 02-15-2026 at 07:24 AM.. |

TLDR: Too long don’t read. Off topic self indulgent ramblings.
One of my favorite bands is Rush. Their drummer was Neil Peart. He wrote some great driving/riding lyrics. I sang Red Barchetta and Ghost Rider, among others, to my sons as lullabys nearly every night . Neil wrote serval amazing tour/memoir/travel log books. He road over 55,000 miles in one long extended excursion, after losing his wife and daughter. From Toronto, to Alaska, all over America, through Mexico, to Belize. As the Ghost Rider. (They’re touring again, with a new drummer. We’re going to see them in LA and Toronto. I’ve seen them about 75 times.) I often told them about his journeys. We’d go canyon carving when they were young on local San Diego winding roads, like Wildcat Canyon, Harbison Canyon and Sunrise Highway. I used to drive Mulholland and Angeles Crest in my ‘83 manual 5 speed turbo T-bird. My younger son liked exotics so we cruised Rodeo and surrounding areas when we took my older son to his early graduation test. We saw tons of great exotics, mostly G Wagons. Mulholland drive’s “The snake” portion was closed though. I got to show him part of Mulholland and the Hollywood streets that I drove when I was young, and the clubs that me and my band mates played and hung out in, in the 80’s. And the infamous Rainbow Bar and Grill. We’ve turo’d the new 3.0 Supra, (which is essentially a BMW) and a C8 Corvette to carve those roads too. It was a little crazy, but I let my sons drive them a little bit on a few certain sections of secluded roads. It’s so cool for me and my boys to be chasing through the canyons separately-but together. The “Snake” on Mulholland is open now. That’s our next destination. Then Angeles Crest. Someday we plan to do Tail of the Dragon. Tomorrow we’re getting the CF trunk installed. Then we’re going for an E85 fuel system. We’re buying another ‘74 Corvette too. It’s got a brand new Blueprint 383 stroker engine and has been owned and built by two of our good friends. Should be another fun ride. |

This topic is a great diversion! I'm seeing Rush in Vancouver in December. I've been cranking my old Rush vinyl lately too.

Older son’s car. Vapor trail.
Stratospheric traces of our transitory flight
Trails of condensation held in narrow bands of white Horizon to Horizon memory written on the wind Fading away, like an hourglass, grain by grain Swept away like voices in a hurricane In a vapor trail NEP |

Badly needed new shoes
Might have changed them out too soon.
I think they could have gone another two or three… Miles! Yikes! Continental Extreme Contact Sport 2, 255x35 19. We wanted to go wider but couldn’t clear the spindles. Got a great deal from a local San Diego tire shop, Bears. Paid less out the door, than just the tire price from my friend’s shop, Discount and Tire Rack. Thinking about adding a flex fuel kit. Nothing to do with current gas prices. Anyone getting decent gains?

Great build and good family memories, to reply to the last message, you can add it however, The cast Crank won't hold much power for long, you would need the reinforced one that's on the M235i or M2, that's where you can get some real reliable power.
