Gearbox output flange loose
Hi All,
I've been chasing down dreaded vibrations with this car since buying it 18 months with little to no success and the issue only getting worse. After throwing the parts cannon of guibos, diff bushes, centre bearing, all new front suspension, new wheels and tyres i've still had a thrumming vibration at motorway speeds and an underlying vibration thats not relative to engine speed or road surface, i took the punt to try a used driveshaft and while swapping it out i've found the nut on the output flange on the back of the gearbox to be loose and i could rattle the flange. i've retorqued the nut and knocked the tabs in to stop it coming loose and installed the used driveshaft (feels better than the existing). After driving on the motorway the thrumming high frequency vibration is gone and when i stop at lights etc in drive there no rattle so i think this has been loose for 2 years! the issue is now i have a more pronounced vibration that doesn't ever go away regardless of speed that's felt through the wheel and seat. what are the chances that output flange has worn the splines badly and theres play and its not running true still causing an issue? Video of the loose nut - https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ixdnk...=2rbhw1nm&dl=0 Any advice appreciated Last edited by peewee2025; 07-03-2025 at 10:41 AM.. Reason: Video link |

No, ive put a new low mileage gearbox in and its made the car drive better it hasn't solved the issue. i've sold the car and looking to get a G31 instead. its a shame as the car wanted for nothing and this one little issue ruined it for me.
