Also, you can't talk about an enthusiast's wants and needs if you are talking about the xi version of the car, you have already taken a step back, many enthusiasts who want every bit of performance will opt for RWD and snow tires and would view the xi as a step back more than what type of "automatic" trans the car comes with. when you make a certain amount of space for lights, not using all of that space looks ugly and not thought out...thats what gets me the most, wasted space when you specify an area for lights.
like the MBZ's inner 2 lights, why couldnt they fill up that area? the BMW's eyes fill the whole space provided= good design. i will always think of MBZ as a very classy car, especially their sedans...but from 2009 and back, this is kind of a let down

Not a fan of the 5 series! It looks hideous... ok, I really don't like it. Impressed with the technology suite that both cars come with.... but definitely not impressed that the gear stick is on the steering column!

But, I need 4 doors and AWD for my weekly ski trips to the mountains. That is the ONLY reason I'm considering buying a German sedan. It's a fact that a PROPERLY DESIGNED DCT will offer the best performance and fuel mileage of any transmission available. I REQUIRE the best drive train, and that will include a dual clutch transmission. Ferrari, Porsche, and Audi are offering dual clutch on their new models, because it is the BEST option available. Let's see if BMW will offer the BEST as well. |

Look at how the guy sit much more upright and tight in the 5er. That's the only one thing I deplore with the 5 series now that I realized it looks better than the E.

I agree, this is not EVER going to be a DCT, but it may come damn close, so go drive it first. Besides, this car is not designed to be ULTIMATE performance. It's designed to be a luxury sport sedan, not a performance sedan. |

Yes I agree and price-wise it competes with the 3er coupe, which is actually of a different class.

Even the X5/X6 M's are not available with DCT, and there is little reason to believe that BMW will put a very costly option on non-M models. Its availability and cost aside, you should really test drive the new Steptronic (X5/X6 M) to judge how it performs. It even comes with the launch control and is fantastic (if you are into not shifting manually). If you are really into driving (as you claim you are), just ditch the automatic transmission all together and go for the manual. While you are at it, you can also ditch the AWD option. Quote:
